I watched the last youtube podcast where Joe and Kaleb discussed the order of their favourite FF movies, when they both said AC (a film I really really love) was the lowest and spirits within was the top. My jaw dropped and I ran home to watch spirits within with massive anticipation, I was so excited and expecting an absolutely awesome movie... by by god was I shocked.
This film was just aweful.
The characters were bland in both appearance and personality. The dude who was supposed to be the 'Reno' joker type character was just cringe worthy. The romance between... wow, can't even remember any of their names already and I only just watched it last night. The romance just did not work for me... at all. The villain was ok except he was a complete dumbass which made him kinda lame. When 80% of the characters in the film died I literally gave no shits. The premise of the story had potential but didn't work for me. I almost fell asleep during the scarce few battles scenes, so so so so bad. God, I could have dealt with this shtty film if they at least made the main chick hot.
I agree with most of what you guys say, but to say this pile of crap film is better than AC is almost as nuts as the time you guys said "eyes on me" from FF8 was a bad song... damn that song was awesome!

I used to enjoy Advent Children a lot, and still do. But that doesn't make it a good film.

And the biggest reason behind me disliking it, is that it took something that I enjoy immensely and changed it. It changed the feel of the main character, it brought back Rufus for no apparent reason, it took the beautiful ending of Final Fantasy VII where Cloud lets go of Aerith and realizes that Tifa is the one for him, and wrecks it. Instead of continuing the plot line, and having Cloud accept Tifa, he instead becomes emotionally disconnected from the rest of the group.

I'd rank them
Spirit's Within Advent Children complete Final Fantasy Legend of the Crystals FF7 Last Order FF Unlimited
But heh they aren't exactly top tier movies by any means. Spirits Within should be viewed as a cool CGI scifi movie and not FF related. Advent Children and Last Order have fun scenes but retcon some established fF7 stuff. The fights are good in both. Legend of the Crystals is funny and did some good stuff. FF Unlimited had pretty low tier animation and could have been more FF related than it was.

Respectable order. And with reason!

I was so excited to see this movie with my brother and I remember buying tickets a day or two after it released and wondering why the theater was so empty. It's like they already knew.

Same here, went opening day withy buddy and the theater was empty. I didn't like the movie at first because I was expecting a more "traditional" FF story, but after I got over it I started liking the movie.

This. just think of it as a CG scifi movie from the 2000s called Spirits Within without anything to do with FF.

Here is the issue, and the reason why I tend to agree with womble619 over you guys on this one: 1. "It changed the feel of the main character" you say, but doesn't seem that way to me, while you may just be able to tell his emotions better in the movie rather then the game(where seeing his emotions were near imposable as the detail for his face was almost not there and had to go off what he said rather then how he acted) And from what i saw he was reclusive, quiet, and at the end resolute(all the emotions he associate with 7) so i feel that fits with his character. 2. Rufus while we can expect he died in FF7 and he probably did, but with no body and movie logic not hard to see him survive and not really a hard point to focus on. 3. You assume the lose of Aerith someone who he may have only known for a short time he would just forget and get over it after he gained resolve at the end of 7, when in real life losing someone you care about never really goes away and we hold that to us for years so i don't find it unlikely(though i may not prefer it) that he would still harbor feelings for her and those feeling may have stunted his relationship with Tifa. All in all i found Advents Children to be just what fans wanted from square, a moves that gave us the fight we wanted with Sepheroth and Cloud, cameos of all the FF7 cast, monster fights, motorcycle fights, the turks and a decent story to tie it all together(we didn't expect the best but we did expect certain things) Know contrary to that FF: The Spirits Within did fans a disservice, and while i don't hate the movie I feel square insulted the fans by creating something and slapping on the FF tag to it to elicit fans to see it. It gave us almost nothing we wanted in a FF movie,it had a bunch of nice graphics but convoluted story that I honestly found boring, and while as a pure film people may say it was good, as "FF film" it was not. Either way i heard your views on this awhile back doubt your opinion will change and doesn't matter anyway we like what we like. But just felt i had to explain why i feel FF:AC gets higher marks then FF:SW.
