Pretty much everyone who is familiar with FFIX knows that killing a large number of Grand Dragons is one of the best ways to level up before the end of the game. But, if you play your cards right, you can take advantage of this great way to level before the end of disk 3. You just need a few things: the Airship, Quina in your party, Auto-Haste on Quina, and the blu magic L5 Death. Grand Dragons can be found outside the cave/library named Daguerro which is on the largest of a cluster of islands on the south-west side of the map.
You can get L5 Death from the enemy "Stroper" (the giant tree-like thing) at the Iifa Tree. You will not have Quina in your party the first time you go there, but you can head back with Quina and get access to L5 Death. Normally, it's so hard to use abilities that depend on the Level of the enemy, so let me make it easy for you. Grand Dragons are level 60, which means that L5 Death will hit them every single time and 1 hit kill them. You can do this without Auto-Haste on Quina, but it just makes the process easier. Do whatever you want with the other characters, and use L5 Death with Quina for an easy win and a lot of Exp.
All you have to look out for is the Thundaga attack, which can K.O. a weaker character with one hit. You can protect against this by wearing armor that protects against Thunder, or you can just take advantage of the fact that you are three steps away from Daguerro and their inn.
It's insane how quickly you can catch up low level characters, or just buff up your party to ridiculous levels by taking out these Grand Dragons at this early point.
