I'm hesitant to go into too much detail since we only have half of it so far, but i'm actually a little disappointed in the episode. Not the quality or you guys, nothing like that. But how you went about FFIX in your playthrough. Compared to past games, I remember you guys (or at least one of you) trying to do basically everything in the game. I think I started listening around FFV review, and I remember Schweiss saying how he generally did sidequests but Joe didn't. I don't think it's a big deal, but it felt like you shortchanged FFIX. It's not my all time favorite, but it is for alot of the forum as you guys mentioned. I think the idea of setting a time limit is hindering the actual review. Like I said before, I haven't heard the 2nd half, but you all talked about how quick of a game it was yet you didn't touch Chocobo hot and cold and as a result didn't fight Osma, I think you may have very briefly mentioned tantarion but you didn't fight him, you couldn't have gotten any of the ultimate weapons because you didn't do the chocobo sidequest. I just felt like you guys ignored most of the stuff in the game just do finish it for the podcast. Hot and Cold really only takes a few hours if you youtube the harder treasures, and it's extremely easy to do as you go along in the game and helps a ton. Especially with FFX coming up, I'm a bit more concerned if this is what you're doing on there too. You mentioned the dark aeons in this podcast, but I can definitely tell you that there is no chance you can fight them if you only really do the story in FFX. Even with many hours of extra stuff it still wouldn't be possible. I'm really sorry for how critical I'm being because the 2 (or 3) of you guys are awesome and you do a great job, it just seemed like you deviated from the usual routine of doing all of the reasonable stuff in the game (unreasonable being FFVIII Omega Weapon, FFIX Excalibur II, etc) so I was a bit bummed in that regard is all. I still appreciate how much work you all put into this in case I haven't made that clear, though.
Just wondering, does any other listener or one of the people that have FFIX as their favorite see where I'm coming from/agree with me, or am I being a bit TOO critical?

Yeah I felt similar. The podcast is great and this is actually the first episode I didn't enjoy as much just because final fantasy IX is my favorite and I just don't think you guys really dived into it enough. You can start the chocobo side quest as soon as you are first leaving Lindblum for Burmecia so the side quests really actually start on disc 1. Everytime you go to a new continent you can level up your chocobo to the next color and you can have a dark blue right before you get the airship actually. Also when you guys went through the story you got a lot of thigns confused ( I know you re-visit alot of the towns) but it just feels like you guys didnt really pay alot of attention when you played through this one. The last 3 eviews you were both very familair with and it just seems that since your last playthrough where both of you were very unfamillar ( 5) with the game, you put a lot more " heart" into it and it just didnt seem like it in this one. Also my biggest pet peeve is that you guys said you didn't know what your abilities did but if you just push "select" and hover over the ability it explains exactly what it does.

Thanks Ghemba I'm glad I wasnt the only one who felt this way. Definitely need to hear the rest of it but hopefully you guys know that I wasn't trying to be critical intentionally.

As much as I love this podcast, I unfortunately have to agree. I didn't hear anything about Hades and his ultimate synthesis or the potential to get Ark, a pretty badass summon. There is definitely things to do in IX, but to their defense, they are a bit obscure. I don't think many people know about the friendly enemy side quest where you have to find each type. I can't really remember what you get at the end of it. But the fact of the matter is that the chocobo side quests is such a large part of the game that it opens other doors to do things. It also goes with Zidane's character in that he is a thief and the chocobo quests are treasure hunting quests. I love the podcast, but I do have to be honest...

Yeah I noticed some things with Part 1. No mention of extra bosses like Tantarian the monster in the book in the castle library, Hades (he is hidden in the final dungeon area but he is easy just backtrack and go beat him) you get a secret synthesis shop of great weapons if you beat Hades. Then there is Ozma and he is very tough. No talk of the secret area Daguerreo Aquatic Library which has a lot of great hidden things. No talk about getting Steiner's weapons Excalibur (not Excalibur II) Oh and I thought it was a bit odd they said the game had a happy ending, because its ambiguous what happens to Vivi we don't know if he lives or dies. In the english version you kinda are left with either believing he is alive or died at the end where he is narrating. But in the Japanese version it makes it clear that he died at the end of the game and was narrating the events. I did like that they said they liked Mogs now though Just wait until they play Lightning Returns

Crimson command: I think the only reward to the friendly monsters is that Ozma becomes weak to shadow, which I think makes it too easy because doomsday hurts him after that. I don't think there's any other perk to that side quest though

I did find this episode to be unique among the main game reviews. I don't think it was bad by any means. Something to consider is that in the past several months, they have played through 9 games from start to finish, in some cases games they knew they weren't huge fans of. I applaud the attempts.
That being said, side quests dudes. Side quests.

I always like hearing about the side quests during the reviews. Maybe the guys can go back and complete some of the side quests from earlier games at some point?
I overall liked the format of this episode, especially the story walkthrough section. This opened up a lot of discussion topics that I think would be missed under a different format.

I think the story walk through was nice also. If you played it before, it makes it easier to remember the events. I didn't think it was a bad episode at all, just not as comprehensive as far as the content compared to the other games. It is only part 1 though so I could be completely wrong. They did explain that there were less side quests and that's true. I think IX focuses on the chocobo side quest more than other quests because of the treasure hunting aspect which aligns with the thief class. Regardless it was still entertaining and above all else reminded me why I love FF once again.

I'd have to agree. Overall I enjoyed hearing about one of my favorite games in the series but it just didn't seem like you guys were happy to be discussing it at all, and it seemed obvious that you rushed through the game just to do the episode about it. I strongly suggest not doing that in the future. Could have just been an off day though, who knows.

Sorry if this has been mentioned. There's a lot of background noise on this episode. Adobe Audition has a couple of different cleanup methods that would work for you. Also, you're too close to the mics. If you get pop filters, they'll force you not to get too close, and will cut out all of the breath noises. The foam covers don't do much. Test the mics to see what they're picking up. Lower the gain so its not picking up shuffling. Then check out some compression filters in audition, like multiband compressor > broadcast.
If you need any help with audio stuffs, i have a bit of experience

I thought you guys covered enough of the game. In fact I think it was one of your more in depth episodes.
