I know Joe and Caleb probably still hate me after my critical review of FFIX part 1, but I gotta say that I really enjoyed the first part of this review. I think probably for the first time you guys were scarcely critical of anything when talking about the game. Even after 154 hours, Kaleb sounded like he still enjoyed FFX. I think there were a few little things you forgot or retconned throughout the story discussion, but that's pretty difficult not to do for such a big game. My favorite part of this episode is by far how you guys felt about Tidus. I was fully expecting Joe to come down hard on Tidus' character, but it sounded like you were both in agreement that he became a really likable and developed protagonist later in the game. I never really understood why people disliked him so much, so it was refreshing to hear your guys' take on his character.
I was also very happy to hear that you guys weren't disappointed with the Yu Yevon final fight like alot of people were. Like I think I posted in a different section somewhere, Yu Yevon was supposed to be easy because you already destroyed what was protecting him. I think it was more of a sentimental, obligatory battle than a true boss fight. I'm anxious to hear what you guys say in Part 2, and especially anxious to hear your rankings now. I started out on this forum split between 7/8/10 with a lean towards 8, but the more I've read stuff on this forum and thought about it, the more I realized that this game really did not get it wrong anywhere. It may not have had an obscenely complicated story like 7 or 8, but it was more unorthodox than the others and I would say connects on a really human level with the player.
Great job guys
P.S. The epiphany about the circles that Joe had in the game was pretty smart. Some of them the game straight up tells us, but you did point out a few that even I hadn't thought of before.
