This is a complicated question so bear with me.
Final Fantasy XI is a gigantic game, but we're having some serious fun.
We thought we had it figured out: do an episode on FFXI and then possibly come back during the "Sequels" to do the expansions.
But it turns out the original "main story" of FFXI differs in the US version and the original Japanese release. The U.S. version already came with the expansion "Rise of the Zilart", increasing the amount of nation mission quest ranks from 5 to 9, doubling the size of what was the "main story".
As one obsessed with chronology (the reason I can't get into comic books is that they have none), I feel a bit wrong doing the first expansion without doing the others. Should we review FF11 by itself? Or do we include the Rise of the Zilart? Should we play all of the expansions and do a giant comprehensive review? Or should we do them all in a row, having a review episode for each?
We'll ultimately decide the outcome, but Kaleb and I do want to know what you think. We are enjoying the game very much, playing with Banedrom, Art, and Krinital, and don't want to short change what is often a forgotten Final Fantasy.
The choices are these:
Option 1: Purist. Play what was originally released, no more. Kill the Shadow Lord and beat the game. Get to rank 6. Yer done. Move onto XII. Worry about expansions later.
Option 2: We're all English speakers here. Play all of the nation missions that were included in the original U.S. release at least. Other expansions can wait.
Option 3: Don't be a puss. Play all available. It'll be forever before FFXV comes out anyway, so what's the rush? Do a review episode for each expansion completed. XII and XIII are gonna take forever too, why rush XI? Plus it'll give us more opportunities to join you in your playthrough.

Notes:
- Honestly we could be done with Rank 5 in like a week, making this a seriously fast play through. And given that this section looks like it's only gonna take 2 weeks, it wouldn't really seem improbable to estimate that the other expansions (there are 6 now) would take us less than 3 months to get through.
- How we treat XI will effect how we treat XIV. We will treat them the same. If you want us to play Heavensward's story, I suggest Option #3.
- Expansions will not be part of our ranking of the Final Fantasy games. It seems only fair to judge the game's story on what there was originally.
- What does Kaleb want to do? The last time I talked to him he wanted to play as much as we could for 2 months and then see if we wanted to go on.
- What does Joe want to do? I think that the wait and see approach would tarnish how we see the game fitting into the series as a whole. I want either Option #1 or Option #3, to satisfy that small OCD part of myself.
