I enjoyed IX's cards. It takes a lil bit of time to understand the system and rules and building up a good collection to beat the harder players. I think alot of people ignore the cards early on and then get smashed later on cause they lack good cards. The players go from easy as dirt to totally destroying wighout trying quickly. Lol

Are there any rewards for collecting the cards other than to just say you have them? I liked that you could get some use out of the cards in FF8 if you knew what you were doing. It made it worthwhile to play the card game.

Nope, just having all those op cards. Lol Ill give ff8 that, the item mod was awesome. Thats how you get lionheart on disc 1.
Course it takes like 10 hours and hard grinding...but its possible dammit.

I always feel like the only one but I prefer the card game in IX than the one in VIII.

I did like that getting a duplicate of a card meant that you could have different stats or arrow directions. That at least added an additional element in the card game that you couldn't get in FF8.

I always feel like the only one but I prefer the card game in IX than the one in VIII. i preferred it over 8's too. It just felt like a fun feature to play with on the side. I liked that its Vivi's interest in the story and wanted cards as a prize for the hunters game.

We will have to decide after playing through ix which one is the ultimate card game of the two. I don't remember anything about the card game in ix.

People tend to not like some of the rules in FF8 but there are ways around it, even ways to prevent the spread of certain rules like "random" or the "same/plus" rules.

If there was only one set of rules it wouldn't be as bad.

I agree,I have a good understanding of the later rules in FF8 but it seems to me that if you aren't the games'a AI you can't really make them work to your advantage. It's all about defense at that point.

IX is straight foward unless you try to collect all the hidden treasure chests and (?) In the game for the treasure hunter top rank or the hot and cold sidequest. Took a few tries to get Excalibur 2 in under 11 hours. My poor ps2.. I am actually gonna start replaying this. Any advice for some of the Secret stuff? I am playing the PSN one on my PS TV so not sure i can get Excalibure 2.

So play it wrong, according to the rest of the series... lol.

Id say to wait and play the game a few times before trying for Ex2. Like husk said, youll have to play through the game at lvl.1 to speed through the story and bosses without getting raped by the system.
I never wrote a guide for all the hidden ?'s in the game. I usually just checked every area over and over. Alot of them are pointless but count..lol
