Cait Sith. Backstabbing, fortune-telling, cat-thing driving a stuffed moogle-thing, controlled by some dude in a suit. Need I say more?

I'm going to vote for any character (usually female) that is the product of the annoying over-the-top-giggly-and-fiesty trope. Yuffie, Selphie,Eiko, Rikku.... Selphie actually used "tee-hee" throughout FF VIII. Nope.

Worst Character in a fight: Edward FF4 low attack, magic and defense actually had a move called hide, his songs were okay but not worth the crap.

I used to just have him hide, and when he was prompted to "show," I would just have him defend off screen. You're right though, he was a giant sissy.

I never used the hide feature, maybe that was my mistake. Might be more that i hated him as character more then in battle but he was my first gut answer.

And then there was the pirate sister from IV (I think). Do you think there is an inverse relationship between the graphics and the female character trope?

Another good point. Do you think that is Lightning and Fang's purpose in the series?
And I totally screwed up inverse relationship. I mean positive correlation, as the graphics get better the females become more giggly.
Interesting note is that no matter what the graphics were, the concept art of the time dd not have a bit restriction.

Interesting note is that no matter what the graphics were, the concept art of the time dd not have a bit restriction. The earlier games feature young girls as well (Rydia in FFIV, Krile in FFV, Relm in FFVI), but they are far less 'giggly'. It might have something to do with graphics, but my bet is that it is a result of Nomura becoming the lead character designer starting with FFVII.

I loved Fang and Lightning, and even Vanille- she was upbeat, but not that obnoxious, over-the-top, annoying kind of upbeat. I don't even think it's necessarily a negative trope, it's just one I don't like. And I adore Terra and Celeste- a lot of people make the point that because FF VI had so many characters, that there wasn't really a main character. This kind of ties into the episode the hosts did about FFX- that the main character and the protagonist can be different. I think that Terra was the true protagonist of VI- she is the representation of VI in Dissidia, she's in the logo of VI, and her theme is the main theme of the game. Strong female characters ftw.

I'm replaying FF4 now and she is doing over 2000 damage with normal attacks.

I encountered her first in Kingdom Hearts. So when I saw her in VIII, my only thought was, "Oh, I know her." And then she was never seen again...
