Last night I grabbed Thai food with some buddy. These dishes are meant to be shared. Normally, I eat half and take the other half home. Last night I just ate it all. I noticed that this happens when I eat socially, especially when it is with friends I am catching up with.
Do you find this happening to you? When you eat out socially, do you find yourself eating while you listen and discoverying that you have listened more than you should have?

I usually eat less when I'm out with people actually. Everybody tells me I'm a super slow eater. So sometimes I eat less cuz I feel bad that people have to wait for me.

This is an actual psychological phenomenon. People tend to over eat in social situations. It has to do with the brain and nuerotrasmitters and chemical signals. Essentially, people feel happy and good when they are out with friends. Accordingly it mixes up the brain and the buerotransmitters that send the signal to the brain that you are full become lost and mixed up.
The struggle is real for social over eaters.

I do it too gammonstark. I feel like I should be doing something so I just eat. Also I have some sort of internal conflict with the concept of getting a box, so I always eat my entire plate regardless of when I get full. You can always make up for it later. One meal ain't going to make or break anything

I think it will be seen as super weird, but really convenient for me. I have not done it yet because I just forget when I go to a restaurant and Use don't go out to eat as often as I used to.

I don't think that'd really be weird. Unless it's a buffet; then you might get kicked out haha. Idk if you've ever seen the show extreme cheapskates, but a guy on there literally goes up to people he thinks are finished, asks for their leftovers, then makes that his dinner. You could get lucky and be in the same restaurant as him so you wouldn't even need your own container

I personally don't see myself withy this problem due to...(sorry for depressing info) lack of friends. My social sodium sings keep me enclosed in a kinda bible so I don't eat with other people at all. I will personally go to a fancy restaurant by ( myself ) and just eat in silence and check on forums <- like this one lol. And just enjoy the pleasure of not having to deal with other people. As for the over eating I have had that problem all my life from a large portion of depression in my life. But since I have commited myself to getting better and more outgoing life has taken a turn for the better at a slow pace. Maybe when we all get together for a meetup or something to that nature maybe I might talk more since I notice many of us have like minds. Lol

When I am eating with new people or in a business/meeting atmosphere, I also do not eat a bunch. This was just about hanging out with friends, but especially friends I have not seen for a while (hence sitting longer in the restaurant).
Since Kaleb mentioned eating out and dating (wink, wink), it made me think of another question:
What are your thoughts on sharing food on a first date? I can only recall one or two times that I shared a dessert on a first date, but never the the entree. Ok, yeah, appetizer. The funny thing about the dessert is that there is always that middle area that neither of us would touch. Just talking first dates.
