Good episode. I don't like to give life comments when they were not asked of me, but I thought maybe you would be interested in this. Did you ever consider working in production for a university? Or just a regular production technician position? When I was in college I worked as a production technician for Virginal Tech. It was a pretty physically demanding position but it's right up your industry. Essentially I set up the technical side of events around campus such as plays, movies, concerts, etc. We were in charge of lighting, sound, and video. If your college has one, you should check it out. I'm not sure how it is now, but it was really flexible hours because it was based on when shows were. Unfortunately you do get the long 16 hour shifts sometimes, but those are rare. We also worked closely with some external production crews that did some cool events. They hired some of our staff as well. It has nothing to do with food also.
By the way, I think I missed some people's comments on some of my threads so I apologize to those people. It's been an interesting few months.

I have been thinking about going to university and Virginia tech is only a few hours from me since I live in Virginia anyway. I might try looking into this college.

I wish I could give you an objective reply, but I am completely bias. When I was there...4 or 5 years ago it was a reasonable price (if you are in-state...out of state for any college is absurd) for how well-known the university is. The job I had was crew leader for the production office. It was an awesome job, tiring and long, but awesome. Even though not my tastes necessarily, I got to work on shows for Maroon 5, Wiz Kalifa, Joan Rivers, Temptations and Top Hats, and some other influential speakers. It was pretty flexible hours as well. I worked on average 30 hours while doing a part time-internship and part-time assistantship. Long story short, I highly recommend Virginia tech because they have some great intellectual minds working there and I have a lot of great memories (most of them stemming from my job) and I also highly recommend the Production Office...although I believe they merged with Operations. If you do decide to go and you need a contact for the position, I believe I still have his work information.
