Good Morning everyone!
Yesterday I decided that work was dumb, and I instead went to my local Theatre for The Hobbit Marathon. Screened all three movies back to back to back in the IMAX. Aside from having a massive neck and headache from staring at a screen for 9 hours. I came away with some strong opinions on the movie.
I will wait until Friday (giving people Today-Thursday to see the movie), Then I will do my best Spoiler-Free movie review for the ending of this duology-turned-trilogy.
My question to all of you, before I dive into writing the review, is two-fold:
1. Has anyone seen the previous movies, and in what form (IMAX 3D, Regular 3D, HFR 3D, 2D, All of the above) 2. Had anyone read the book before watching the movie?
Bonus Round!
1. Did anyone watch the animated Hobbit movie from the 70s? If so, compare your opinions of that movie to the current set =)
I will see everyone back here on Friday!

Saw it in 2d, read the book before, anything is better than the cartoon version. Started a little rough, but as soon as the battle begins I really enjoyed it. Ending tied too much into Lotr, so it didn't stand on it's own.
Be sure to watch the second movie right beforehand as there is no "here's where we let off" type scenes, it jumps right it. (hence rough start). 4/5, as a trilogy it's still a pretty good one, if a lot more shallow than lotr.

I saw the first one in standard thrice and then once at the cheapy theater. I then bought the theatrical DVD when it came out and the extended special edition bluray with Gollum when it was released. The second movie I saw once in standard. I was sick (not because of the movie). I saw half of it in the cheapy theater. I waited for the extended bluray (I would have preferred to buy it on DVD, but could not find a release). I had the book read to me when I was 8, and it is the reason I read. I have read the book at least 6 times since then. Lately, at least once every two years. I had three animated Middle-Earth movies. I think they were LotR, Return of the King, and The Hobbit. Some were Warners and/or Bakshi (or whatever the spelling is). I no longer have these movies. They did not make the move. I had a lot of fun watching these with friends. I would love to hear a watch along commentary of them.

Use the beginning of 3 as a Prelude into the movie. I can't watch 30 minutes of GoPro white water rafting. Its an awesome fight scene, but it and the second movie seem to interrupt the flow of the story for me.

I live in a small island town on the upper east tip of Florida. I have to drive about 30-1 hour to go anywhere else decent.

Just rewatched it.
Do you think they made two orc armies so that the total would be brought back up to 5? The eagles play a small role in this, but they always seemed to be portrayed as "the cavalry saving the day" in the Jackson-verse. I don't recall them being that Dues Ex Machina in the books. At least 4 times in the movies they are used in ways that come across as "well, let's just have the eagles come in...".
Gandalf's last line makes him seem a bit of a prick to Bilbo. He says a bunch of nice words and then basically ends by telling Bilbo that when people step in shit, he is the stuff under the shit that nobody notices.
I still like the movie. It still feels like one long fight scene :-)

Nice, I hit -2 today. It is brisk, to say the least, but we still don't have any snow, meaning I don't have any real winter activities worth doing except ice skating.

We're the second driest state in Utah, so our temperatures will often go above 100 in the summer, and then the winters are brutal too. Short Spring and Fall. Our roads always have potholes in them because of the constant temperature extremes.
