Ok so I heard this game was part of final fantasy and I could see that from what I played of it. (need to play it again.) It plays sort of like ff5 in that it has a job system but in this game you don't get the jobs from crystals you get them from beating things that have classes you don't have. Unlike ff5 you can preform up to 4 actions a turn like attack 4 times, or heal once, and attack, then cast a spell, or ability, this was a cool feature of this game. From the tiny bit I played it doesn't seem to be an rpg where damage is heavly inflated and that is always nice to me as it feels like you deal more damage that way.

This game is awesome! Definitely worth playing all the way through. I tend to power level my party and had managed to max out all of my jobs and levels by chapter 5 (there are 8 chapters I believe), yet I still found the battles toward the end of the game to be very challenging. Everything after chapter 5 seems a little tedious if you complete all the sidequests but not enough to where I wanted to quit playing the game, and I will definitely be getting the sequel when it comes out. Although this is not a numbered entry into the series this game should be included in the podcast.

I believe at some point it will be. I definitely enjoyed what I played, and I will play again I just feel like I have to level grind a lot in that game during some parts.

You will, especially during the second half. I liked it because even with max levels you couldn't just go into a fight and brave four times with all your characters and start attacking. You really have to think about which two jobs you are using for each character and make good use of their abilities. I would recommend not spending too much time leveling up your characters or jobs too early in the game. I don't want to spoil anything but there is a spot when you reach Eternia where you can really speed this along with a certain job class and ability using auto-battle (which I love, same grind in half the time!) When you make it that far I can post some tips. Maybe a good "tactics you might need?"

I loved this game. It is definitely the type of Final Fantasy game that I had been hoping would still be released. The twist was pretty neat. I wish I could say more, but I don't want to spoil anything.
I ignored the Brave/Default system because it did not seem important and felt a bit cheesy. But when enemies started doing it to me, I realized that there was a-whole-nother game going on that I needed to be playing.

All this talk makes me want to play it again i will buy it soon. I don't recommend giving out your addresses, but have you guys thought of making a wish list of podcast related items that people can purchase online and then have sent to you?

Just listened to the hosts complaining about random battles. Bravely Default lets you adjust the level of randomness. You can choose to double the encounters to grind, or turn them off completing to explore (or get the f out of the dungeon after something nasty tore your spleen out).

Oh god, YES. This game was a classic JRPG with all of the problems associated with JRPGs taken out of the equation. The job system is an awesome throwback, but I like how you can choose multiple abilities to custom-build your party. You can increase or TURN OFF random encounters (thank the MAKER) so when you're over-leveled, or just rushing to get through, you don't waste your time.
Even at max level and a good team, the game is still hard on certain boss combos.
You're right Gammonstark - That twist is AWESOME, but it does take too long to get there. Anybody else play this game? Did anybody skip the repeated sidequests in the final chapters? Did it go faster?

I did not go through all the repeats. I ended sooner than "you were supposed to," and you get an ending. It then takes you back to the moment before you "do the thing that gets you to the ending" so that you can keep going in the game, but you get to keep all your experience and items.
The next time I play, I am going to "do the thing" the first chance I get and see what happens.
It reminds me a lot of Chrono Trigger, with its ability to get different endings depending on what time period you choose to defeat Lavos in.
