This only works on the FFX HD version if recall correctly. I haven't tried on the original version.
Basically get Yojimbo as soon as you can. He has a special attack called Zanmato that instakills any enemy (or enemy's form) by cutting them in half. This attack can even work on bosses and optional bosses in the game. Like the Dark Aeons and Penance are some examples.
The trick to get Zanmato to trigger more often is to always pay Yojimbo 1,024 gil. Or anything 2x,3x,4x, etc. that price so 2x would be 2,048. 1,024 raises the chance of him doing that attack very high and each increment of 1,024 only increases the chance. For some reason 1,024 is the perfect amount to trick the ingame stat probability calculator or something.
Just make sure to keep Yojimbo's compatibility rating high. It starts at 128 default when you receive him. It can go down if you:
Dismiss him without paying him f he is KO'ed if you summon him and dismiss him immediately if he uses Daigoro to attack
all those things bring down his compatibility rating so make sure not to do them. If he uses Wakizashi or Zanmato and you pay him then his compatibility rating will rise (max is 255) and the higher it goes the higher the chance of giving him 1,024 will make him use Zanmato on an enemy.
This way you can easily kill tedious bosses like Dark Aeons and others in the FFX HD international version of the game in just one hit. If it doesn't work just keep trying or just reload your save and go back and try again.

On my original PS2 play through, I almost never used Yojimbo. I thought he was a waste of money and never needed Zanmato anyway. But with the Dark Aeons in the HD remaster, he's a life saver because I don't have the time or patience to max every single character's stats just so I can stand a fraction of a chance against them.
You can beat them on early levels just by ensuring that Yuna gets the first turn. If she doesn't have a weapon with First Strike, then have her out of the party and someone in the party who has that weapon. Then switch out that character to Yuna, summon Yojimbo, and hope for Zanmato. You can kill them without them getting even a single turn.

This is how I beat the end boss in my recent play of FFX HD. I had died 2 times and didn't want to go back and grind levels so I got Yojimbo to his limit and I basically just gil tossed the final fight by giving Yojimbo ALL of my money and he cut Jecht in half for me haha

Is there some kind of reward for beating the dark aeons? I beat FFX HD but never really trained enough to go against the bosses like that. But if there isn't a reward it seems a little pointless to just zanmato them to win, unless it's for the trophy then I guess that would make a lot of sense.

Well the Dark Aeons block areas in FFX HD so if you missed anything and you backtrack to Besaid or other areas you will have to beat them to enter. Also like 2 of the optional bosses in the game are Dark Aeons like Penance and you must beat them for a trophy.

Huh I didnt try Anima but what kept happening to me was I would have a character always get permanently killed. If I remember correctly I only had 2 items that prevented stone so one of my characters would get stoned and then shattered. While I would say beating the final boss with a single Aeon Attack was kinda lame (I wanted to the hard way I guess) it was actually pretty damn awesome and strangely satisfying watching Final Jecht get sliced in half.

If his compatibility rating has lowered can it ever be raised again?

If his compatibility rating has lowered can it ever be raised again? Yes it can you just have to keep doing stuff to raise it again (see my original post at the top) And be sure to pay him 1024 gil or anything 2x 3x of that etc.

Wow thanks so much for this tactic man. Works like a charm! I'll pay 1024 and its always a guaranteed zanmato in 1 or 2 tries paying. I never used yojimbo like at all in my previous playthroughs, and anima was my personal favorite aeon. But I think I have a new best friend now haha
