Atkins
I remember working at Starbucks when this craze hit California. Suddenly half the customers wanted heavy whipping cream in their coffee instead of half-and-half. I also remember customers telling me about the mindshock from last of sugar. According to the regulars I talked to, it seemed pretty hard to follow if you want to eat out.
I don't think I could follow Atkins, but I have reduced the amount of bread I eat. I was surprised by what a challenge it is to eat a meal without bread.
Work vs Home Food
Kaleb, I am the opposite when it comes to food. If I am at home, it is much easier for me to watch what I eat. It's when I am at work that I tend to screw up my eating schedule or what I consume. I am so used to working late and grabbing food at 2am on the way home. Even though I now get off closer to 2pm, I still tend to fall into the old habit of grabbing food on the way home.
Energy Drinks
I never picked up this particular habit. Even Gatorade or Poweraid are foreign to me. My weakness is Cherry Coke/Pepsi. I usually add my own grenadine to regular Coke or Pepsi. I rather use Pepsi Next, but that has disappeared from my local stores. I may ended up kicking this habit because all I am doing is adding corn syrup to corn syrup for a big sugary mess. And corn syrup seems to be bad sugar.
I tried to challenge myself in not consuming High Fructose Corn Syrup, but ultimately couldn't. I was surprised by what actually contains this sugar. Everything, basically.
Engagements
I am in the same club as you guys. I was engaged twice before I finally got married. The first one was short, under a year. The second time was actually two second times to the same girl. I asked her and we were engaged, but she broke it off. Then a couple years later we gave it another try and she asked me, but later she broke it off again. That was rocky decade of off again on again.
Work Sapping Creativity
Since I started teaching, I have lost interest in pen and paper RPGs. I think all the energy and skills I used to create and run games and turned into creating lesson plans and running a class. My previous jobs at Cinnabon and Starbucks added to my creativity. My body could work while my mind created. I usual weekend would include working from 8am to 4pm, then going to a friends house from 6pm to midnight running the game I just created. Now when I come home, the closest thing I do to creative writing is creating these posts for your forum.
