As someone who naturally researches something new, I have been looking into Final Fantasy XI. Granted it is not new, but it is completely new to me. I've never looked it up or seen it played.
I started looking things up and am interested. As a veteran MMO player, both casual and raider, I was wondering how Final Fantasy XI will be approached. Will this be a coordinated team effort? Will this be a group of FF fans just hanging out doing missions? A little of both?
My first thought was jobs. Kaleb and Joe mentioned playing black and white mages. That leaves a whole lot of freedom in terms of jobs for anyone else joining up. Do we all want to discuss this first? Or do we want to jump in, create our characters then just see how it goes?
Am I over thinking this?

I think this will be approached as a little bit of both a coordinated team effort and a bunch of us getting together and playing. You guys should also start planning characters and play styles. Let's make this awesome!

You guys should try to advertise the playthrough on maybe reddit, facebook and twitter and even youtube and twitch. Some people are bound to join that have or never have played FF11 before and wanted to play as a group with other people. It could help the podcast listener base to grow too. I'm probably going to be monk initially and then Ninja or Samurai when they are unlocked

I suppose that I should look more at the skills from each class, but I am going to approach this game very differently. This is going to be an experiment in fun. I spent so much time on Everquest II SQUEEZING my stats and raiding and making myself the absolute most powerful character in my guild. This time around, it seems to be a fun experience. I wholeheartedly welcome that.
The beastmaster class seemed really interesting. I played a beastlord in Everquest 1 back in the early days of MMOs and absolutely loved it. For starting Job I am looking at Thief. I wouldn't mind being a tank either though. Warrior to Dark Knight seemed totally fun.

Well, the last time I played 11 seriously I started as a Red Mage, got it to 30, unlocked Samurai, had a LS mate help me farm a rare low lv katana for like 5 hours... then quit. This time? Who knows. Patching now. More Recently i've started playing healing and support roles in mmos, so I'm thinking Blue Mage, Dancer or Scholar would all be solid choices this time around

Well "Back in the Day" People always Raved about the endgame stories of this game. I been watching the Lets Play, that are on UFF youtube page, and honestly the worlds themselves seem very uninterested....kinda bland really. I really hope the story is good i defently plan to check it out more and hopefully play soon(hopeing i can find people there to play with as i doubt i can convince anyone i know to play it) Does it play well on console? I prefer console over PC if possible.

Know i just need to get the game and find people to play with give it a week or 2 and see where i stand with it. Not big into MMORPGS but defentlly want to try this one and hopefully 14 after (i heard better things about it)

I'm working with a lvl 28 rune fencer and plan to sub it with white mage and be a magic heavy tank with elemental damage for the group. I originally played red mage in the past but when ppl were more dickish back then I just quit playing. Plus the game was wicked tough back then but now with the records in place you can rack up points like a mad man and get exp like there is no tomorrow. If you do plan on going to ffxiv try it on the ps4 it's play style is more fluid and a little easier on new players who are not used to PC play. I am greatly looking forward to the new expansion coming out soon.

Kefkapalozza, now is a good time to start XI, even if it is just a trial run. There are some of us on daily and we are all willing to help out.
