Not sure about anyone else, but IX is my favorite in the entire series. No question, no doubt.
I got it a month after release as a gift for doing well in school and did nothing else but play it after school and during weekends.
It just seems (to me) like everything a final fantasy should have and be. Interesting story, awesome characters, villians with a motive and a great battle system. The music score was spot on as well, melody of life and the crystal theme were great themes. Kuja's theme and dark messenger are burnt into my mind.
Now, I know everyone has different opinion and this just happens to be mine. I've played ALL the games in the series, but this remains my all time favorite.
Whats your thoughts on 9? Did you love it, hate it or never even play it? Shame on you if you havent though!

I've played about ten hours of FFIX. I enjoyed the gameplay, but I'm not a big fan of the artwork. I will be playing it soon enough though!

That seems to be alot of fans main problem with the game. The art style is different from any other title in the series. Its not my very favorite but ive come to like it over time.
Ive actually 100% this game, which is very hard. Getting a certain characters best weapon has you getting to the final dungeon at under 12 hours play time. Took alot of practice to do that right.

I liked how they tried to go back to some of the nostalgic settings and themes from previous FF games. That had huge appeal to me. I also think that they ability/magic system in FFIX was the best of any FF game, VIIs materia system included. I liked being able to permanently have an ability or spell and the strategy in having to manage which ones were equipped at a given time.
The one thing I hated was that almost every character was some kind of animal. I know they have done something similar to this in past games but I personally didn't care for the character design. Especially since they don't even try to explain why the hell everyone takes after a certain animal!
Not my favorite but I've beaten it and would recommend it.

I think they were just trying to have crazy hybrid races. They never explain why neko girls in games are cats, they just are.

IX is among my favorites. The boss battles and dungeons were fun.

Nice, you you'll have to let Joe know which one is yours. He tends to use guides as an outline for his runs.

IX is straight foward unless you try to collect all the hidden treasure chests and (?) In the game for the treasure hunter top rank or the hot and cold sidequest.
Took a few tries to get Excalibur 2 in under 11 hours. My poor ps2..

I still don't understand the damn card game. At least I understood the concepts in FF8. I've even looked up guides for the card game in FF9 but it was all a little convoluted. Add to the fact that there was really no apparent use for the cards other than collectibles I gave up on this pretty early.

I never got the card games. I thought they were dumb.
