Here's a tip on how to reach level 99 with all characters and further increase their attributes. This is especially important if you are planning on taking down either Ruby or Emerald Weapon.
The fastest way that I found to reach level 99 is to go the North Cave on your way to fight Sephiroth. There is an area with a save point, a couple treasure chests, and lots of roots growing on the ground. If you run around in here, you will get into an encounter with either an enemy called "Mover" which looks like three bouncing balls, or a "Magic Pot." Mover's can be killed with regular attacks and net you a large sum of EXP and AP, but the Magic Pot's will give you 8000 EXP and 1000 AP per enemy! If you have any EXP or AP boosting equipment this will help to speed along the process.
For those of you who are unaware, you have to give each Magic Pot an Elixir before you can damage it. Use the W-Item trick if you have the materia, if not you can go to the Northern Mountain and find the small, dome-shaped cave with a single treasure chest that contains an Elixir. If you open the chest, don't press anything when the text box appears! Only use the directional pad and walk out of the cave. The text box will remain on the screen, and if you walk back into the cave the Elixir will be back in the treasure chest for you to take again.
The last trick is to take a party with Yuffie into the Sunken Gelnika. You want Yuffie to be at a decent level as she will be your damage dealer. The trick to the Sunken Gelnika is that every enemy you encounter can be turned into a stat source item by using the "Morph" ability. The reason that I suggest you use Yuffie is because her attacks are not as effected by the Morph command, which tends to reduce the damage dealt by quite a bit. Different enemies drop different sources, so find which stat you want to increase and get to grinding, however if you are trying to increase the "Strength" stat, this can be done a little easier by going outside of the exploded reactor in Gongaga and fight the Triceratops tank can be morphed into strength sources.
