There seems to be a lot of hating on the ole FFXII. I know it's not necessarily the greatest entry into the series, but I had a blast with this game. Sure, it's an endless walk, and yes; the story is weak. But I had a blast doing the hunts in this game. The series finally found a great way to get you to grind without it feeling like grinding. I also had a great time finding the rare game with my friend Jake. Maybe it was because this was the first entry in the series that I played immediately upon release, but I think it's deeper than that. I feel like I am Captain Basch von Ronsenberg, damnit! And remember kids; Don't listen to Ondore's lies!

I enjoyed it alot more when i played it as a new game ip and not a final fantasy. I really didnt care for the new battle style with all those delayed attacks.
The story was weak but i liked the characters alot.

I found its battle system to be quite enjoyable. I particularly like seeing the enemies walking around on the screen, giving you a chance to avoid fighting. I did not care for the summons in this one though. They were largely ineffective, and uninteresting. I did like the limit break combos. You could end up doing insane amounts of damage with them, and if you did enough different combos with them, you could hit the enemies with a powerful aoe spell. It's pretty sweet.

I felt like I was playing an MMO with a bunch of mute newbs. I am not saying that is a bad thing. I ended up having more fun with it when I pretended that I was a soloing as a caster with a bunch of pets that shot streams of green jizz at their targets.
Fun game, but I like to control my whole party. I guess really liking VI screwed me over. One of your episodes mentioned how they tried to really build each character. XXII may have that same background, but VI made me feel like I was playing all the characters at the same time. Or at least switch focus and be any of the characters I wanted to be.
XXII and KH let you control the protagonist while your party listens to suggestions from you. I heard on another podcast that people complained about the original Persona 3 in the same way. But in P3, you are supposed to be the leader (the host argued), and that giving commands to your team was part of the game. I would rather be able to micromanage the party and build up some amazing combos or at least be able to react to what is happening in combat.
I did not mind the other stuff in XXII. The hunts felt like Tactics side quests. I missed the air ship and world map, but that did not exist in tactics and coming out of X and KH I had already gotten used to the those elements being different. I remember certain elements of the internet complaining that all the characters looked like clones of X characters, but I saw the characters as different entities but drawn in the same style or by the same art team.
I thought it was a good game, but it is not a game I would hand to someone who has never played FF as an example of what Final Fantasy is. I also don't see myself replaying it. I liked it enough to play Revenant Wings. And that game was frustrating to me. I am definitely not an RTS guy. But hey, at least Nono was introduced and turned into a plush that can stare at me as I type this to you.

my best quickening chain is 68 haha. The Clan hunts are awesome, if there ever was a reason to have DLC, MORE HUNTS.

Back in the day when a game came 100%. No dlc bullcrap to make an extra buck. Just think about what the oldfinal fantasy's would be like if they had dlc then. You'd have to get dlc to fight the weapons in 7 or to fight the strongest monsters in arena for 10.. ugh..

The best part about FF12 was definitely the hunts. Aside from the Yiazmat hunt that is (at least give me a bad ass weapon or something for killing that bastard, but just an in-game achievement).
I will say I'm a FF12 "hater" but I feel I've earned that right by beating the game, doing all the hunts, and sinking well over 100 hours into the game. That being said, I can't remember a damn thing in the story, which is important to me when it comes to a FF game. If there was a new game plus I would think about replaying it for story purposes but when I think about the grind again I decide against another play through.
I also didn't like the treasure system, where each chest has a percentage of what item is in each chest. More importantly I think it was STUPID how to get one of the best weapons in the game, the zodiac spear, you have to NOT open certain chests, with nothing special to distinguish themselves from other chests. How would someone figure that out by playing it without a guide? And who decides to not open chests? That's one of the fun parts of FF games!
I'm not even going to start with the battle system either, which I personally didn't like but then again I don't care for MMO games either.

It would be an optional skin for the other blondes. Perhaps I have been listening to too much SSSFF, but the first thing that popped into my mind was: "I got your optional skin right here." Then I heard Joe yelling "HIPS."
