So I was just on youtube watching the old Final Fantasy 7 tech demo for PS3 and began reading the comments section. As usual, I was astounded by the amount of sheer ignorance and stupidity that I found there.
Someone in the comments section stated something along the lines of "IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING IN 2016!!!". Of course, THIS was an ignorant post and was quickly corrected. However, the majority of the respondents stated things like, "It will be 5 years if we're lucky" and, "This might not even be this generation". They then of course referenced Final Fantasy 15's "10 year development" as evidence (also, seems whenever people talk about this they always feel the need to add a year or two).
Personally, I am sick of hearing crap like this and wrote out a lengthy response which I ended up not posting (I do that a lot) because I decided to just not get into it. However, since I'm assuming the average age of users on this board is significantly higher than the average age of someone commenting on youtube, I figure I'd see what you guys think.
The following is an excerpt from my comment:
"Furthermore, I'm sick of people saying "Final Fantasy 15 took 10 years" like that has any sort of validity in itself or in application to this situation. Versus 13 was announced in 2006. FINAL FANTASY 15 started full production in twenty F*CKING twelve. Hardly anything from the original versus 13 has been retained except for the MAIN characters (yes, they erased stella and that entire scene between her and noctis that was supposed to be the intro is supposedly gone), the scenario, and the fact that its an action rpg.
People need to grasp that Versus 13 was effectively cancelled, and final fantasy 15 just took from it what it wanted."
I guess my last sentence in that quote is what I want to discuss. How much of Versus 13 do you guys think is in FF15? What do you think about the development time of this game? How long do you think FF7 will take? Personally, I think FF15 will be out around Christmas in Japan (2015), Q1 2016 worldwide, and the same format will follow for the 7 remake only 2017 and 2018. This would follow the same pattern that 13, 13-2, and 13-3 established. I would say FF16 would follow in 2020, however maybe Ito is off working on it already and we'll get the sweet ass upgraded version of 12's combat that he's said he wanted to do sooner than later.
