So I recently downloaded a pretty cool app on my iPhone called My Fitness Pal, it is also available for Android. It's a super easy way to track your calorie intake, you can manually enter it or snap a photo of a barcode and the app finds it for you.
Also you set how much weight you want to lose and the time period you'd like to accomplish it in, and bam it's time to start recording calories! The only down side I can think of at the moment is....erm if you're a lazy person like me you may get tired of constantly filling in what you ate in a day....so yeah, no excuses!

I also don't do the food thing, just the weight/steps/goal aspect of it.

Using that app two years ago, I lost about 80lbs. Admittedly, that was combined with a healthy fitness regime, but I can fully testify it works. I've switched over to the Fitbit app, even though it is seen as superflpusly fancy, it has the same quality calorie tracker. Fitbit also tracks sleep patterns and heart rate if you spend enough on it.
The great thing about fitness pal is that it remembers your commonly entered foods. This saves you time. You're right in that it can get tedious entering all of the different foods. You also need to be pretty accurate. I have a scale that I use to weight to the nearest gram. 1 cup is easy to mess up but 100 grams is 100 grams.

Nice, I guess my app is just a little notebook I have been storing in a bathroom cupboard for the past 5 years. I used to keep track of my steps with a pedometer, but the 3ds took its place.

I just download the my fitness pal app on my iPhone and hopefully I can build the habit of tracking everything that I do.
