Is anyone here interested in starting their own show?

Are you planning on creating a podcast empire? I've thought about it before but everything that I would want to do has already been done a hundred times before.

I was actually debating such a thing for awhile. But may just be the musings of a mad man, i don't think i have the charisma nor patience and the time for something like a podcast let alone the time to do all the editing(takes me forever). Hell i was for awhile trying to do youtube videos but even that i put to the wayside due to lack of time.
Ideas i had debated were a Movie podcast - A new movie each week discussions for at least 1 hour, divided into 1. A short history of the movie including directors name, cast, and screen writer. 2. Synopses of the film from start to end. 3. Discussion on the movie. 4. Interesting facts we found out about the movie. 5. Listener reviews. 6. Final thoughts/rating
Also was debating an RPG gaming podcast monthly Same 6 steps as above but lengthen to 2 hours.
Basically use the best structures i can cobble together from different pod-casts I love, completely with music/sound bits from the sources(one thing the DBZ podcast has taught me is people enjoy nostalgia) People also love a sense of community which your podcast is so good at.
Either way something i got at the back-burner till i can muster some free time lol

But you could do it better then many of them, fact is there are many podcasts out there, but most are horrible. A big reason i love UFF is the quality and the consistency of shows they produce, so many other put out new shows so infrequently or the shows are too short or such low quality actually hurts my ears.

Kefka you took the words right out of my mouth on the views of different podcasts. The uff podcast line is so far the best podcast I can listen too. So much so I can go back and listen to old shows and still find enjoyment where others talk only about current events in a game or just their point of view on it at the time and that is a limited time podcast. You listen to it as its coming out and once its over you never listen to it again. Your podcast line on the other hand will be entertaining for many months and beyond. Depending on how long the nastalgia lastss for or whenever square ducks up and goes bankrupt.

I listen to over 12 podcasts a week about everything from 80s movies and horror films, final fantasy and video games in general to educational philosophy and anthropology. I've been sharing the UFF podcast review recordings to the hosts and trying to help give some feedback. My main question is this: In you're opinion, how much of a podcast's lasting power comes from the topic and how much comes from the likability and quality banter of the hosts?

I ran a podcast a few years ago for games. It ran for like 20 episodes or something and then our site shut down and we just stopped. It was fun I guess.

Yes, but I think the show would end up being for me rather than being for others. Is that how you guys got started? You made a show that you would want to listen to, but also because it gave you an outlet for creative energy and exploration?

I'd probably listen to the hosts talk about the size of their crap that day, to be honest. Alot more fun than rambling on alot of other podcasts. They could start a podcast about probably anything except politics and I would listen.

I have often thought of doing a podcast. A Final Fantasy one at that. But i would have no idea where to start. Id love to know the process you guys go through.
I also have an idea for a game podcast where the hosts take turns choosing a game and they all beat it (Like a book club but game club) would follow a certain structure like this one but in-between the review episodes there will be episodes devoted to the game and its development, history, the people who wrote it, and any major players involved with it. I was thinking that itd be dedicated to JRPG games mainly as well.

You made a show that you would want to listen to, but also because it gave you an outlet for creative energy and exploration? Pretty much this. Although the other requirement is to have at least 1-2 people other than yourself that are good friends that share similar interests to just talk and then you record that for the podcast. The more natural the discussion among friends sounds the more the podcast is good in my opinion. Thats why something like the Geekbox podcast or Super Best Friendcast sound great is because all of those people were friends since they were teenagers basically and are all adults in their 30s now that still talk like best friends.
