I would ranking it at 5th out of the 11 main FF games i have played. Like the gambit system, and the more open world system then some of the games, with a lot to do and explore, found the hunts fun.
Only thing i disliked is how the story itself was weaker then many of the other games as well as the villains compared to many others lacked character, first 2 play throughs never even finished it. Unlike 7, 6, 10 and many others where the villains and stories compelled you to see it to the end.

My ranking goes 10,7,9,12,4,8,3,2,1,13. I have not played 5/6 (yea i know i need to get around to it) and i have not played any of the MMOs. I honestly love 12. Although i do believe the story and characters are lacking i find many aspects to be great. The battle system, the world itself, weapon and armor system, and the esper collection all rank highly as some of my favorites that the series has to offer.

Still working on XII...I will finish it someday... I really don't care for the story, and that's the only reason why I don't feel compelled to play it. I like a good half of the main party (Fran, Ashe, and Balthier) the gambit system and license board is really unique, and I like the hunts. It does rank pretty low on my list- out of the main games I've played, it's second to last.

The battle system is amazing that was by far my favorite part. Was not a fan of the License Board; characters could too easily be the same ( the International version fixed this). Story was meh unless you are really into Star Wars (seriously that first FMV. Straight out of Star Wars.) and I felt it was way shorter than FFX maybe because it was less compelling? Animation and voice acting was pretty solid (they actually had people eating, in 2006 I was blown away.) Designs for environment and characters were insane back in 2006 that being said, despite how huge the cities were, there wasn't that much to actually do in them other than buy armor and magick. All those NCPs, barely anything to do (Kinda sums up the game- crap ton of detail on the exterior barely anything in the interior). The amount of side quests was sickening (hunts were amazing), that being said F*** the god forsaken rare item drops, F*** the idea of items/enemies being so hard to find that you HAD to get a strategy guide because to hell if you honestly think you'd be able to find it on your own. Finally, a HUGE F*** you Square, to a boss that that takes more than 2 hours to kill that's not even that challenging. Seriously? Who thought that was okay? I'm assuming the same a-hole that thought up the lighting dodges. There is a special place in hell for those people. I give it a 7/10.
My Ranking- VII, IX, VIII, X, V, XII, VI, III, IV, XI, II, I.

I liked the gambit system.
I didn't like the random loot from chests or the rarity of creature spawning or getting certain things from drops. I feel those are best suited for an MMO than a solo game.
I didn't like how the story perspective was from Vaan. I wish it was more like FF7 where it's from the perspective of who is in your party. Because I wanted to see the world through Balthier and Fran.
But overall it was a fun game to play.
10, 7, 6, 8, 9, 12, 11, 1 (I have not played 2-5)

Great game, great story, great characters, and the difficulty is a model a lot of other rpgs could take note of. You can complete XII relatively quickly but if you want the best gear and the ability to exploit the best tactics you must do the side stuff which is amazing. Like the original FF I like how you can venture into areas that you shouldn't be in. I remember the first time I got to the Nabreus Deadlands and was like "oh crap I'm not supposed to be here yet." I love the game overall, it's top 5 for me.
4,6,7,Tactics, XII.

After replaying this now for the third time it has grown on me immensely. The game might be a giant grind, but the battle systems awesome. I like having having more than one or two pieces of equipment, and the story (despite its execution) isn't as bad when you understand it a bit more. I think it's cool that Venat really wasn't a bad guy, but just wanted humans to be free from the occuria. Of course, this probably leads to all the destruction that happens later on in the history of Ivalice. However, I agree with Spoony that Vaan and Penelo should not be there, and the game could have just started when Balthier entered the plot. I did complete all the hunts, however I was incredibly pissed when after my 4-6 hour battle with yiazmat, I found out you need to complete the bestiary to get the highest clan rank.
Also, the most annoying thing in this game is the slowdown of spells at the end. I'm trying to get a curaja off on my guy and he's just standing there getting wailed on cause some other thing casted a spell.
A better game than most of the early ones,
9 > 7 > T > 10 > 8 > 6 > 12 >

I am not the biggest fan of the battle system, as I felt that it took too much away from the player. 98% of the battles could be won by having a decent set of gambits, dropping your controller and leaving the room. I would have preferred for gambits to control mostly support actions rather than everything. The story is interesting, but pretty much demands at least two playthroughs to understand it. But one of Final Fantasy XII's strong points is that, unlike most other FF games, there was not a character in the party who I disliked. All of them were likeable, which helped this game a lot for me. So this is not the worst game in the series for me, but it is not my favorite.

I got my playstatio 3 while playing 12 and never finished it. I had been off 11 for a few months so wasn't sure about this game.I really liked the though, the way the gambit system worked and the open feel without needing interned and a party of friends made it so much better. I didn't mind the license grid as it was a nice addition to the lvl grinding. I thought their were some interesting enemy's and really beautiful vistas and having loved tactics I was eager to see how it all fit into the same universe. As I never finished it or got to play the international version makes it hard to rank properly but based on how much fun I had is have to say my order would be, (7,10) tied first, 9, 8, 12, 6, 4, 13's, 10-2, 5, 11, 1, 2.

1 out of 10
Gameplay: 8, gambit system is a unexpectedly nice change from the same old active time battle system. Music: 6, just a bit above bland, notible songs being a remake of FF5s battle on the bridge and battle with an esper. Story: 4, just to much rhetoric and complicated concepts that dont make sense by the end of the game. Shouldnt the end boss have been with the Occuria(the gods who manipulated humans) instead of Vayne?
6/10, an okay final fantasy but the story was just not there, gameplay alone wasnt enough to make this entry a great one.
