Goal 1: Finish Screwtape Letters - FAILED, BUT... I did not touch the CS Lewis collection all week. I did read two other books. I am going to call this one a soft fail. The overall goal was to read.
Goal 2: Read a real book before bed - PASSED I started rereading a series I have read many a time, always during the summer. I read two chapters a night, and imagine that I will reading this series for a long time. I may break down and just devour a book in a few days, but the goal is to no stare at a screen before I go to bed.
Goal 3: Dog to Vet - PASSED He did have fleas, which is weird because it has never been a problem before. He had a few bites, but was having a reaction to them. He is much better now (shot and antibiotics pills).
Goal 4 Movies - PASSED Saw Antman. I enjoyed it more than Avengers II and will probably see it again in the El Cheapo theater in a few months. I also kept with some earlier goals and did not buy candy or soda at the movie theater. No crazy headaches. I think I got that association out of my system.
Goal 5: Ants - PASSED Screw those guys. I bought the first barrier spray I say at Home Depot. I was expecting a hand pump mechanism, but it had some battery operated handled. Weird, the battery got really weak before I was halfway around the house. Been ant free for three days. Hmm, I wonder if this particular problem influenced my choice in movies...
Goal 6: Favorite Thai Place - PASSED Daughter had fun this time, also.
Goal 7: Meet up with friend - PASSED Actually hung out with two different friends. A friend came over with his wife and daughter on Sunday. I also badgered the intended friend to meet up on Thursday. More Thai.
Goal 8: Xillia 2 Chapter 8 - PASSED Almost did not make this one. I got caught up doing a bunch of side stuff and did not get a chance to play during the middle of the week. Luckily Chapter 8 was short.
Weight: 190.6 - Gained 1 pound Up a pound from last week. I had this week off of work. Instead of losing weight, I enjoyed the week by eating out twice with friends and once with my wife. I guess a pound ain't bad, considering.
******** Goals for Week 2
Goal 1: Keep reading a paper book at night even though I need to start waking up early for work.
Goal 2: Begin an anime. I've had an itch to start something new or watch a summer favorite.
Goal 3: Flowers for wife. I used to buy fresh flowers, but they die in the heat. I want to find some nice fakies to keep out on the dining room table for the rest of the summer.
Goal 4: Canyon Crest Walk with daughter. When it was cooler and I was off, my daughter and I used to walk around a shopping center called Canyon Crest. The heat has kept us inside. Now that the humidity is going down, I should have a chance to spend some time there with my daughter late in the week.
Goal 5: Weed the hill. I doubt I will finish getting rid of all the rogue palm trees that have sprouted up, but I have not touched the yard for two weeks. I should at least clear out a patch and check back on the work I have already finished.
No particular Friend or Dog goals for this week. Just send some emails to keep in touch and keep walking the dog when I can.
Weight Goal? Hmm, get two feet firmly into the 180s.

Week One Report
Goal 1: Keep reading - PASSED I have had to stay up a little later, but I still get in two chapters a night and enough sleep. I have found myself wanting to read the book more and more. I stop myself because I don't want to burn through the series too fast.
Goal 2: Begin an anime - PASSED I started two animes, but did not finish either. I gave both Fate/Zero and Psycho-Pass a chance, but I have so many animes in my Netflix queue that I don't feel the need to finish a series I am not enjoying. I do want to give Fate/Zero another chance, but after I am more familiar with the characters.
Goal 3: Flowers for wife - PASSED I ended up doing this the next day. The funny thing is, the store was literally right in front of me. I tend to park in the same place at the shopping center by our house. That parking space happens to be right next to a shop that specializes in faux flower arrangements. The flowers cost about the same as real ones, but still look great after a week. I still plan to buy fresh flowers, but I need to wait for those one or two months when California is not erupting into flame.
Goal 4: Walk with daughter - PASSED Even though I returned to work, I was still able to take a stroll with my daughter around Canyon Crest. We actually went several times. The stones surrounding the fountain she likes to play with were too hot, but we discovered a water area where kids like to play. Or rather we discovered that she loves it. I held her a view times, but she is reaching that "getting to heavy to carry stage". I feel kind of sad.
Goal 5: Weed the Hill - Passed Technically. I did work on the hill for an hour and I did clear a patch, but the heat has been insane again this week. When it finally cools down to 80 or so, it is too dark to work. I figure for the next 5 weeks nature is going to have her way with the backyard. Then when I am off, I can do some catching up. I can accept that when it comes to me and nature, nature wins.
Still tried to walk the dog, even if it is really hot. We only have to run across one street to get to a little park where he can walk around in the shade. I did not see any friends this week, but did drop a couple of emails and told some neighbors about an ice cream party I have been mulling over for the last month.
Weight: 187.4 - Down 3.2 pounds from last week. I don't see myself beating this next week, but it's possible. All weekend is nothing but going out. I may be able to use the rest of the week to break even.
**********
Goals for Week 3 (wow it's already the third week of August?)
Goal 1: Keep reading that same book even though I will be more than doubling the amount of work I do starting August 24 and will really feel the need to fret and over plan.
Goal 2: Find an anime to finish. I will try on one or two more. If that does not work out, then I will go watch a classic like Cowboy Bebop.
Goal 3: Have a nice weekend with wife. We are going out for the weekend, but it is going to be hot and I have lots of papers to grade.
Goal 4: Maintain current daughter times. I don't have anything new I want to try this week. I just want to keep doing all the stuff that we are already doing, especially since my schedule is going to be really busy for one week, then kind of odd for three weeks after that.
Goal 5: Find time to actually clean the house and possibly get my car washed, even if I have to got to an actual car wash.
Goal 6: Some friends have birthdays coming up. Reach out to them or attend any functions that I can.
No particular dog goal for this week. He seems happy, and I have seen no sign of fleas.
Weight Goal? As mentioned above, try to break even and definitely stay below 190.

I did have gaming goals, especially since this is primarily a gaming podcast. I am trying to complete a chapter of Xillia 2 every other week. That gives me a week to play the chapter and an off week to explore all the side quests and new areas that open up after each chapter. Two weeks ago I finished Chapter 8. Last week I did side stuff AND finished Chapter 9. Unfortunately, I unlocked the poker mini-game and have wasted a few hours on that. I started Chapter 10. So my gaming goal for this week is to finish Chapter 10 and get right up to the beginning of Chapter 11.

Speaking of xillia I got tales of xillia last week and have yet to play it but I do plan getting to it. Right after I beat ff5 and 6.
Goalsfor the week: Make Sure to do 100 push-ups a day each morning befor I get in the shower. Also make sure to actually get up at 645 to do said work out. Always try to do some jogging in the morning at least 2-3 miles if you can.

I picked up 2 because I caught it on a day it was only $15. It is reminding me a lot of FF12 and I am tempted to go back and play it. Perhaps after the podcast episode and playing Xillia 2, I will appreciate FF12 more. I never jogged in the morning, but I used to walk the dog for a mile or two. It may be the heat or age, but the dog does not last that long anymore and that has pretty much killed how far I walk.

Self motivation is all I can do to keep myself going . When I started except sizing last year I depended on my friends and family to push me to keep working out but very quickly life got in the way of everyone and nobody was on my schedule So I lost my drive to do it. Now I do it alone and I have accomplished so much more.

The podcast has helped me. This little playing the home game has been an interesting experience. I toy with the idea of recording it and releasing it instead, but I always toy with podcast ideas and never follow up.

Reach out to them or attend any functions that I can. No particular dog goal for this week. He seems happy, and I have seen no sign of fleas. Weight Goal? As mentioned above, try to break even and definitely stay below 190. Goal 1 (Read): PASSED. The book I am reading is a collectors edition of a trilogy. I finished the first book and am now reading a companion book. Still reading two chapters a night which comes out to about 25 minutes a night before bed. Goal 2 (Watch): PASSED. I restarted Sword Art Online II. I enjoyed the first one, but not the "second season" with all the Alfheim/Harem stuff. The gun themed world seems pretty interesting. I started watching SAOII last December, but never followed up on it. Goal 3 (Husband): PASSED. The wife was surprised that the weekend was so nice. She did not expect the winery to have so much to do or to have such nice rooms. We will definitely stay there again. School did not get in the way, and the heat was dry instead of humid. Everywhere we went, someone was handing out water or wine, so we were well hydrated or at least too buzzed to notice any heat. Goal 4 (Father): PASSED. Still taking my daughter to her classes and to the bookstore despite work getting busier. Goal 5 (Home): Passed? I vacuumed, but did not get any real cleaning done. No car wash. And those ants are back. Goal 6 (Friend): Passed. I send out some emails, but did not see any folks. I did have a playdate with another parent who I became friends with. Game Goal: PASSED. I finished all the side stuff I had access to in Xillia 2. There was one region I could not reach, but I did not try to hard. I started and finished Chapter 11. Weight Goal: PASSED. I stayed below 190 and pretty much broke even. I am 187.6, up .2 from 187.4 from last week. I only gained 3 pounds on the anniversary weekend with my wife, which I see as fantastic. Lots of good food and wine. I had what I thought of as a lot of soda, but actually no more than 3 a day. I think my mind and body are getting used to not drinking cherry coke like it was water. I find myself wanting water or tea more now. It has become rare to drink more than 1 soda a day. It's strange to think that maybe two months ago it was hard to drink only 3 sodas a day.

That would be 4pm my time. I wanted to be part of the original group that started meeting, but at the time my daughter decided to wake up right a 4pm. It was not possible to be on with your guys and take care of my daughter while she is going through her wake up routine. Now I get home around 4pm and get to see my daughter and dog for the first time that day. After that excitement comes the wind down including trying to get my daughter to take a nap and grading/prepping for the next day. So yeah :-)

Goals for Week 4
Reading Goal: Continue reading a physical book before bed even though I may be doubling the amount of time I am at work and adding a work load at home. I also want to continue reading the Horatio Hornblower series. I usually read one book a summer, but last year I read 3 and this year I plan to finish the last 4. I am a little sad it will be over, but I can always reread or watch the TV series.
Watching Goal: I don't imagine I will have enough time to watch anything this next week. I think I should be able to run the last 20 episodes of Friends in the background while I plan and grade, though. The plan is to finish Friends, the goal is to actually pay attention to some of it.
Husband Goal: My wife will be gone most of the week. I don't know what I can really do. So my goal here is to do SOMETHING.
Father Goal: My daughter and I will have a bunch of time together, but at the same time I have a lot of work to do. My goal for this week is to be a Father first and teacher second. Basically don't let the deadlines and planning time reduce the schedule I have already built with my daughter.
Home Goal: Get the house will be painted on Monday. Once that is done, I will caulk (mmm, caulk) some the areas where ants are coming in. If ants are still a problem, I am going to call a local professional - not an expensive monthly service.
Gaming Goal: If I don't have time for watching and I want to read and be a good dad, I don't see myself getting any gaming time this week. So let's shoot for playing at least 2 hours of Xillia 2.
Friend Goal: A buddy and I are going to Anime LA in January. I already bought my tickets, but I need to pick a night and purchase a room for that night. The friend can stay with me and pay whatever he wants if anything. Another friend is reading the same books I am reading at night. I want to send him an email with some of my thougths.
Professional Goal: Usually I don't want to spend more time outside of class working than I do inside of the class. That might not be possible this week. The class is one I have taught 8 times before, but the book is new and the course work has been slightly accelerated. An additional week has been added to the class, too. This is all great, but not for a guy who is going to be a single dad for a week. I imagine I will be spending several hours outside of class each day (and most of the weekend) planning this new class. So the goal this week, is to get the work done, but not at the expense of spending time with family.

Nice, Joe! I like to play with Trello, too. I told myself I was going to use it for gaming or teaching, but paper has worked better in both instances, so far.

I imagine I will be spending several hours outside of class each day (and most of the weekend) planning this new class. So the goal this week, is to get the work done, but not at the expense of spending time with family. Week Four Report! A day late, but I was exhausted Friday night. I can handle the heat when I can hide inside, but yesterday involved walking back and forth between buildings and parking garages plus teaching and helping with an award ceremony. Oh, and I decided it would be a good idea to do yard work while it was still 90 outside. Yeah, so sleepy time at 9pm. Reading Goal: PASSED! I finished Lord Hornblower on Wednesday and was hoping to jump into and possibly finish Admiral this weekend, but the local bookstore has the book on back order. Normally this local store can get me the book faster than Amazon, but since the Amazon vs certain publish fiasco is all wrapped up I guess Amazon maybe the better route again. I will wait another week for the book and see what happens. I did continue to read my late-night book despite having to stay up late to do it. I still averaged about 7 hours of sleep a night. Watching Goal: PASSED! I polished off Friends and actually watched most of it. Only a few episodes played in the background while I worked. I even went back and watched the first episode again just to see where it all started. I even got some Anime in, too. As a way to unwind after work, I put on an episode of Bleach. That anime should keep me busy for awhile. When it was on Adult Swim, I was only able to catch a few of the last episodes of Season 1 and early episodes of Season 2. I don't remember liking the Soul Society stuff all that much, but I will at least finish Season 1 on Netflix if not all three that are available on Netflix. I may continue on to watch the rest on Crunchyroll. I also continued watching Sword Art Online II. I have not picked a new TV series or movie to watch. I may just stick with the two anime series for now. Husband Goal: PASSED! Sunday, Monday, and Thursday I got to hang out with my wife and daughter. The heat was more of a limiting factor than her being gone. Father Goal: PASSED! I had to stay up later, but I was still able to do all the normal stuff with my daughter. We went to Gymboree twice and almost went on Friday. Her naps were a little off because she was still waiting for me to get home, but near the end of the week she started sleeping while I was at work. That opened up a lot of daddy/daughter time (but reduced my gaming time, hehe). We hung out more at night since I was the one putting her to bed every night. I think it helped me accomplish my Reading Goal, though. Home Goal: PASSED! House is painted. I have the caulk! I did a good job sealing up the wood in our houses, but caulking in the kitchen was a pain and I pretty much made a mess. I still have some obvious areas to seal. Ants have continued to be a problem, but now that the weather is cooling down and I have sealed up some entry points, I am hoping that they will go away. If not, I will call a professional. Well, if I can get my daughter to stop leaving food around, I am sure that would be a big help... Gaming Goal: Passed. I think I played two hours.... If I did, I played for exactly two hours. I know I grinded and explore during the weekend for about an hour. On Tuesday, I got to play through one of the side stories that involved to brutal battles. It was a pretty short quest, though. Friend Goal: Passed? I did pick a day and get a hotel room for Anime LA, but I did not contact the buddy about the books we are reading. I also contacted another friend to try to plan an trip to an art gallery in Alhambra - Gallery Nucleus. There is an exhibit on Monsters of Myth and Nature. A block away there is a burger place called Grill 'Em All, a metal-themed joint. Professional Goal: PASSED. I did work a lot, but still got everything done without sacrificing daughter time. The new class did not really feel like my class, though. I think this is because I was still finishing a previous class in the morning. I felt like a sub in the afternoon. Now that the other class is over, I can devote my time to rebuilding the afternoon class with this new book. Weight 186.2. That is down a pound from last week. I am surprised, especially since I added an extra meal during the day. Next week, my schedule changes again and that may impact the weight. I feel confident that I have said good-bye to the 190's for now, but they may return for a short visit during the holiday season. September Goals coming tonight or tomorrow.
