The ATB gauge in XIII can be a pain in earlier levels, waiting for it to fill up without Haste. Here are a few tactics I used after reading the XIII-2 official game guide. It's certianly not my own idea, and there are hundreds of videos you can find to show you it in action. (Actually maybe tens of videos lol).
ATB Guage Refresh
Ok. This might not come out right here; it's convoluted but here I go:
'After one full ATBG charge, switching paradigms after completing the previous queue will give you a completely filled gauge upon switching'.
(Basically once you've done one set of attacks after the ATBG has filled, you get a full guage when you switch paradigm).
For example; let's say you're using Fang, Lightning and Hope in Relentless Assault. Lightning is your Main party member. You hit Auto, and Lightning does her 5 spells. Your atb will then start to fill up, BUT, if you switch to another paradigm, it will come up with a full ATBG! Handy when you need to get your attacks out fast.
Double up your paradigms
This means that if you have a deck like;
Relentless Assault (COM RAV RAV)
Relentless Assault
Decimation (COM RAV SYN)
Decimation
Discretion (COM MED MED)
Discretion
You can keep refreshing between two of the same Paradigms you want to use to get your attacks/Debuffs/Buffs etc out faster!
(N.B.This was my fave deck towards the end. Commando stabilises the stagger bar while either Ravager increases the bar, Synergist adds Haste etc, or Medics heal up. This is only a suggestion, and actually I'm gonna start another Thread for favourite Paradigms!)
Drawbacks in Final Fantasy XIII: The first paradigm shift will take up valuable time to go round everyone to show you the 'new' roles for everyone, UNLESS you're in the air. The Long Gui and adamantoise enemies (when attacking the head) are a good example of being in the air. So I would avoid using it for quick battles, or have something like Relentless Assault doubled up and have other paradigms you might need for a boss battle. In Final Fantasy XIII-2, this doesn't happen so I used this tactic a lot more.
