I really do love the XIII-2 and LR, anyone who reads my stuff knows that, but I think FFIV: The After Years is the best. First, I played FFIV when it was titled FFII for what I would say back in the day. It was great to go back to the traditional FF style of game play; pure turn base, insane random battle count, with the 2D enhanced graphics rather recently. FFIV is my favorite out of the series, not better than 6 or 7, but going from the first FF to IV is still probably the biggest gap of a quality diff in the series going game to game. I think the story was great enough to deserve a sequel and I feel the sequel did it justice vs XIII, the opinions on the series are extreme nonetheless, the didn't necessarily deserve sequels but needed sequels to finish the story, which as a whole IMO was awesome. FFX-2 annoyed me.... FFIV: The After Years for the win!

It used to be 10-2 for me because i absolutely love the dress sphere system and how fun it was until I played type-0 recently. Type-0 has a funa battle system (not as good as 10-2), awesome story, and a gorgeous soundtrack that could compete with the best of them. What is yours?

Haven't played quite a few of the spinoffs but I also think X-2 is my favorite. If I can recall correctly it's really only between that and Crisis Core. Crisis Core was good but I don't like playing it on the PSP and I don't like solo party playstyles like that.

Well we need to clarify what is a spinoff and that is where I game series allows some of their characters and themes to be used in other series outside of its known universe. Such as kingdom hearts and chocobo dungeon along with tactics and crystal chronicles comes to mind. Another is ergheiz . X-2 and xiii-2 and 3 along with crisis core and dirge of Cerberus are not spinoffs they are sequels and prequels to their respective game. They continue the story of their respective character in the same universe. Thus not classified as a spinoff. Just wanted to clarify so you get better answers.

After I posted I realized, when it comes to this series, what exactly is a spinoff and a sequel. I'm leaning toward they're mostly sequels. Now is FFXII a spin off of tactics? Same world different story?

No FFXII is technically a sequel to tactics because it's in the same world. They need to literally be in a whole different world to be a spin off that's the key.

So what do you think about the XIII trilogy. The world changed but same story.

So what do you think about the XIII trilogy. The world changed but same story. the world did not change just time. in the catalogs in the primers in the game you figure out that the place lightning goes to is the place found at the end of time in the same time. only accessible to those chosen by the goddess. it is still a place in the world and plus its a continuation of the story with the same characters so to me its a sequel. and 13-3 is a place found near the last 13 days of life left for the world on a platform found in the sky.

Well darn it I think you ruled out every option I have haha. I guess it would be the first Kingdom Hearts then. I haven't played it in forever but I used to absolutely love it

Well under the true best spin off definition my favorite would still be type-0 followed by the original crystal chronicles close behind. Not sure how I feel about considering kingdom hearts a spin off because its much more Disney than final fantasy as well as not having ff in the title. Idk what do u guys think, should KH be considered a spin off? Personally I consider it a standalone game despite its FF content

If not then I might be out of options. I HAVE played tactics if that counts. I'm not exactly in love with it but I think that's the only game you've left me to go with. I think KH should be considered a spinoff. It does have a lot of Disney but it is pretty heavily influenced by FF (characters, magic, backgrounds) so why not.

If any of you were wondering tactics is a spinoff due in part it accepts cloud and aerith into the game as side characters and also I think other characters are in the other versions of tactics
