Words can not express my love for this game(though i will try). My second attempt at this game, first time got to chapter 3, this time got to chapter 11 so far, and for whatever reason all the hate i felt toward the game at start is gone know. Lightning, Snow, Hope and the other characters who i used to hate i find myself rooting for they developed real personality. The story which at first confused me and felt convoluted got really interesting about the time we get to meet barthandelus, and once i got used to the terms that sounds similar and there different meanings, fal'cie l'cie Cie'th etc.. Not to mention this game is probally the most challenging ff game i have played to date, probably died 50 times easy so far. And yet it still handles itself well by not making you have to start at your last save point and instead starting right before the fight. You got to really plan what paradigms you use and when or else your fucked lol. The world itself is beautiful the first scene when you get to the open fields on Pulse is epic truly had a grand scale(I hope i get to fight that huge thing that ate giant turtle mammoth thing) Dam i could gush forever all i know is this game feels like a polar opposite for 12, while 12 had a weak story and a very open game from the start, 13 has a very narrow world for most of the game and but a very driven storyline where it always feel like your playing against time with a clear push to reach the end. Either way love it and can't wait for you guys review :-)

You know I'm right with you in regards to my sentiments for the XIII trilogy, love it. Sadly, you won't be fighting Titan in this game. That was the idea when they made it but they didn't have the time and/or the resources for a battle with something of that large of a scale. In XIII-2 you can clearly tell they capitalized on what they didn't do in XIII because probably the first 3 or 4 boss battles are all very large scaled monsters. I also enjoyed XII very much and XIII only slightly more. I agree with the podcast that XII would have been better with Basch as the main character, although Vaan was the most useful to me combat wise. What I really liked more about XII than XIII was the adversaries and the politics of the world. By now I know XIII inside out and can clarify almost anything anyone has a question about, but on my first play through I was a bit confused about the meaning of a lot of things and got some things mixed up with others. For instance, what and what the difference was between a L'Cie, a Fal'Cie, a Pulse L'Cie confused me at first. My 3rd play through was when I received my platinum trophy for XIII and after literally dissecting everything the game had to offer it became one of my favorites, the trilogy itself is #5 in my top 5 FF's. As much as I couldn't and still can't stand how much Hope wines in the beginning of the game, he even became a character I respected and could understand eventually, anyone who loses their mother will have a hard time or even never let that go which is what I eventually came to grips with. Vanille is my absolute favorite, and most fans hate her. She's my second favorite female character in FF next to Rydia in FFIV. I say that maybe because in some ways she's much like Rydia. They both share the "there's more than meets the eye" quality. Rydia, at first, being a little girl who can summon beasts and Vanille, at first, is a cute, goofy, carefree young woman when beneath the surface she's a powerful L'Cie, who's been to war already, and has skills that can straight bring an enemy to their knees. I mentioned this somewhere else already but when she reveals to Sazh who she really is I wish she exposed some of her power right in front of him. "My name is Oerba dia Vanille. I'm a L'Cie from Gran Pulse and to everyone on Coccon..... evil." She should have blasted him with blizzaga or death at that just to show him her prowess as a veteran L'Cie, again much like when Cecil and Kain think Rydia is just a little girl and she summons Titan on them. I love this game and the trilogy just thought I'd share a few things I really liked.

Good to hear! This really is a good trilogy! I think there is a lot of hate for this xiii because there is such a lack of explanation of what the hell is going on early in the game. my first play through I spent a lot of time in the game log because as with Judge Gabranth's post, I too had a hard time to understanding the difference between L'Cie, a Cie'th, a Fal'Cie, and a Pulse L'Cie.

Again, as much as I love this game and the trilogy, if I had to point out one disappointment was when you unlock the final cyrstarium that there weren't any ultimate spells. I thought maybe we would get spells like ultima, holy, flare, meteor. Then for the physical characters bum rush, jump, deathblow, stuff like that.

Yeah i was disappointed by that I am at Orphans Cradle and i think Crystarium is maxed on a few character? Not sure though there may be 1 more Crystarium increase or something. The magic has been kinda bland spell are so quick and animation on them so brief kinda been a let down but i guess longer animations would slow down battles and go against how the game was designed. Spells like Ultima, Meteor, Holy tend to have fucking long animations at least in some games, think i am remembering 10 mostly when i say that.

Definitlly can't wait to play the other 2 games(i already got them awhile back just yet to even open them) love to see this world expanded upon, i did miss not seeing as many people in this world though :-( Really bummed there were no town in Pulse i enjoy talking to people in these games because it usually does alot for the world building experience.

Dam was really hoping the big dude was like an optional boss, I don't remember them naming him in game but Titian is a cool reference :-) I just love the grand scale of it all and would have loved ot attempted it, though i admit the logistics on it would have been interesting to see them attempt, maybe fight him piece by piece like Sin or something. I still don't like Hope but i don't hate him as much as i used too(feel like his anger was justified but still was insufferable to listen to him whine over and over) Fucking love Vanille she combines the peppiness of Rikku and Yuffie but she gives the character depth. She loves fang, she feels guilt for what she did to the others just her being at the festival on Coccoon and getting there lives destroyed, but she tries to play it light and happy but she is always struggling with inner demons and guilt. And comparing her to Rydia is dam accurate she is an unassuming character with so much depth and potential. A questions i did have though mostly story related that may be more clear to you: It is hinted at earlier that at one point Fang became Ragnorak, and the focus we would assume was the destruction of Coccon as that is the big final plan to bring back the maker that all Fal'cie are aiming for. Well obviouslly she failed Cocoon still existed so how did she become a crystal and claim she achieved her focus if she failed? Or was he focus something else? Or did she not actually become Ragnorak? This might be expalined in chapter 13 or the later games but curiosity has got me lol

Or did she not actually become Ragnorak? This might be expalined in chapter 13 or the later games but curiosity has got me lol I believe when Fang and Vanille received their first focus it was to go to war with Cocoon during the War of Transgression. Fang did become Ragnorak and shattered the rim of Cocoon which ultimately won the war for Gran Pulse, at least the way I see it, and which meant they completed their focus. Hope actually mentions it earlier in the game why people couldn't live near the rim any longer at the risk of exposer to another Pulse attack. Fang forgot everything and Vanille remembered everything. I believe when it's uttered 'how many times must you fail,' in regards to Fang, it's how during the whole game Fang had her mind made up to protect Vanille rather than protect Cocoon. In fact, she or they took it one step further by getting Dahj and Serah involved. Even in the face of Orphan, Fang was content on destroying him and if it wasn't for Vanille being unafraid of Orphan they would have become Ceiths. What Barthandulus and Orphan didn't realize, which was Lightning said "you don't over reach us, we over reach you," that by become Ragnorak they wielded the power to yes destroy Cocoon but also wielded the power to save it, they still had a choice although they had a focus. Brining back the Maker would have been a mistake, but that's exactly why Barthandulus assisted them time and time again to become powerful L'Cie to make this so and by giving them an "unescapable" focus that they would have no choice. Vanille being the only one who remembered what it was like completing a focus knew from the beginning that the focus was escapable but revealing it early on would have meant Fang would have been set on destroying Cocoon and that more people would get hurt, but obviously by Vanille hiding and running from the problem, got Dahj, Serah, and the purge involved which was just as bad. So in the end, Fang and Vanille decided to wield the power of Ragnorak to save and ultimately protect Cocoon. And why the rest were released from their crystal stasis you'll just have to wait for XIII-2, I can't spoil that for you.

Don't worry I love 13 and the rest of the trilogy too. Just give people time and most fans will start changing their opinion on the game too. It takes about 10 years usually for FF fans to come around and enjoy a game they hated lol.
Are you going to play 13-2 and Lightning Returns as well? I highly recommend them.

Finally beat it, the ending was not as good as i would have liked.........felt forced. Like they got to the end and the developers were like "How the fuck do we get out of this plot hole we dug" I mean we are lead to believe that Serah and Dajh in crystal form are killed by Barthandelus and we are also lead to believe that everyone but Vanille and Fang are turned into mindless crystal people, but both of these things are proven to be false, but i just don't understand why? Barthandelus lamented that all fal'Cie are limited in there abilities and power and can only do as the Maker set them to do so maybe it was because he couldn't harm them which i guess is the only rational explanation as i doubt he spared them out of compassion or anything like that. I did like the 3 part boss battle at the end was fun and decently challenging, but once i found the trick to beat each stage they died quick. The last battle Orphan threw me off i didn't stagger it quickly enough and it kept blocking everything Loved the call backs to earlier games, whether it be the names of cities like PalumPorum or the names of the Falcie's or the Carbuncle doll :-) Fucking died in this game more then any other, it can be brutal if your not paying attention, fucking adamantoise are no joke beat my ass like i owed it .Know all i got to do is platimum it...been looking at some of the trophies and i have a feeling filling the crystarium is going to be a bitch...aim to do it before the year is up but that may be me being optimistic.

Kefka, my friend, the crystallarium is the least of your worries. Treasure hunter is the catalyst of all pain. Fuck i just read up on it always assumed after all the grinding to max the crystallarium that i would get everything i would need to get all gear maxed but saw a few people online saying it took them easily 150+ hours to get that platinum :-( Any tips you got? May get a platinum by the time 15 comes out at this rate, as most i can play in a day is maybe an hour or so at best.

Took me 128 for platinum, it's very doable if you do your research, and of course after that make sure you didn't sell anything that you can't get back. Good luck!
