Hey guys. After finishing up the mainline series I came to the conclusion that FFX is the Final Fantasy game that I will always recommend for newbies to the series. I think it's very approachable and has the easiest gameplay mechanics to understand. It seems to be the most forgiving game in terms of gameplay and it has a story that isn't overly convoluted.
Now that you're almost done with the mainline games I would put the question to you. What mainline Final Fantasy game would you recommend for players that have never before played a Final Fantasy?

I'm in agreement with you on this. 10 years ago I might have said something a little older like 7 or 8, but FFX is both easy to play and easily accessible. Story like you said isn't convoluted but it's still really good.

I'm not sure what I would have said 10 years ago, but after replaying through the whole series last year I definitely think FFX is a great entry point.

I agree, I only said 10 years ago because people outside the series probably would have been a bit more content with the graphics or gameplay of those Gen 5 games than they are today. I convinced a friend probably 6 years ago to try 7 and he gave up immediately due to the graphics. FFX is my favorite overall though so I'm gonna recommend it either way. What was your favorite again, void? I feel like it was 8 but it's been so long since you've really been active on the forums (and you're now not the only one giving them questions like in the past lol) that I can't remember.

I'd go with ffX forsure. Its the perfect balance of true old school final fantasy themes that will be familiar to them and spark their interest to the old ones. It also has not too dated graphics that will put the new generation off. The story is also one of the easiest ones to follow (that's why I wouldn't recommend 13 to a first timer).

For the average person? Yeah I'd recommend FFX probably.
BUT if you know the person let say loves 8bit or 16bit old style RPGs then I might tell them to start with FF4 or FF6 or something.

I'm replaying FF4 now actually. Got to the moon a couple years ago, died after a long time without saving and never came back. Thought I'd start from scratch this time after listening to their review of it

I agree- I think X is easily the best to start with, for all reasons stated. Also, if said new person was very invested in X, there's always X-2. Campiness and all hate aside, it IS a good introduction to the job system, so that if they decide to play older games it won't be a completely new concept. That being said, I told my story on another thread of trying to get a now-ex to play FF X, and they just weren't having it, despite being a gamer. Some people just don't get it
