Just a simple question about tabletop gaming, have you done it? How long was your campaign? What system did you run? Super cool board games are welcome to this discussion too!
My first campaign only lasted about 5 weeks. It was me and three other people, including the dungeon master. We were running Pathfinder and let me tell you, it was a hoot. Normally I like the evil character side of things but for some reason I decided to go Paladin. Our group consisted of me, the Paladin, Avalora the ranger and Bulgrad the female dwarf barbarian. We were tasked to get three orphans to Salt Marsh.
We got those Orphans to Salt Marsh alright. Where they were then mauled and torn apart by zombies that inhabited the town. Needless to say, we all ended up dying there. By the end of the campaign my paladin was blind in one eye, missing a toe, -5 to dex throws with her left arm. Then trying to heal I attempted praying to my god and it backfired so not only did I die but I was dead and invisible so no one was able to find me to revive.
It was an excellent time though!
What are your stories for table top games? Magic the Gathering, Board games, etc are welcommmeee!

[/nerd level over 9000!]
I have been playing Warhammer and Warhammer 40k for almost two decades now. I've spent easily 10,000$ on Games Workshop products. I create narratives for my characters and my friends and I create super elaborate campaigns all the time.
I played Magic a long time ago, though I met someone over the summer that renewed my interest in it, even if she doesn't know it yet. I only have decade old cards though. I've been playing the iPad app to get back into the swing of it.
I recently picked up Boss Monster, but lack the support (no local friends with interest) to play it. I love me some board and card games.
I did dabble in White Wolf games as well, which is not a board game, but you do roll dice on a tabletop. Does that count? I loved Werewolf. I had an awesome Ahroun Get of Fenris aloha in a pack with my friends. We had so much fun tearing apart the World of Darkness.

Yay board gamers! I got into the foray of Euro games about 9 years ago, starting with MTG. It has since grown into a love of all things that require dice and cards. I haven't campaigned with D&D in a long time- the last version I played was 3.5, which I'm told was the best version anyways. I also used to play Warhammer 40k, but haven't in years- such a time commitment, although I did keep my Tyranid army. I recently got a copy of Kakerlakensalat, aka Cockroach Salad, that needs played, and am a fan of the Munchkin and Zombies!!! series. Played Exploding Kittens for the first time last weekend, and any fans of The Oatmeal definitely need to check it out.
Didn't realize that MTG is now on the ipad- then again I hate apple, so there's that. It definitely sounds like a good way to get back into it, Banedrom- I'm sure your friend would be down to play a physical card game, especially since the older cards are the better ones anyway!

I hope so. I am going to ask her to help me build a new deck. I have been shopping around on amazon and sites like that for some starter boxes, but I wasn't sure what to get.

Glad to see other fans of MTG. Any of you into Edh/Commander format? I just built my first Edh deck. Oona, queen of the fae is my general. Blue black tribal elves with discard and a fun combo to lock my opponents out of their lands. I like playing control.
Banedrom are you looking to play casual or jumping into standard?
Battle for Zendikar prerelease is this weekend and I cannot wait. My shop is running a tournament at noon.
Zombies was always a fun one. I miss the heck out of playing munchkin! We had a larping group(I did not get to play) downtown that did vampire the masquerade. I heard that was fun.
My boyfriend and warhammer friends keep trying to get me into 40k. I don't think I can do that D:

All the time. Battle for Zendikar does look pretty sweet- theres a few shops around here running tournaments, but I mostly do casual. And Vampire the Masquerade...yeah...got a couple friends that got really big into that. Seemed like a niche thing, but fun nonetheless. There's actually a huge gaming convention going on in my hometown of Erie next weekend- they call it EDOG, the Erie Day of Games. A group of people from several game stores all get together and once a year rent a banquet room at a hotel and invite anyone to come pay a cover (to help pay for said rental and some food) and play games for Saturday/Sunday. They usually have auctions and raffles to benefit the game stores, and there is always someone either sneaking liquor in, or groups going to the bar across the way to get tanked. .....not that I would know anything about sneaking liquor in.

I am not college age anymore... 40K scales really well. I actually would tell people who want to get into it to get a squad, an HQ, and the rule book. Paint it up. And play some really small games with that. As you expand on your army, force yourself to paint it as you go and play with one more unit per game. This will get you a painted army and you will learn how your units do in the game. It is a really smart way to go. Do not be like me and collect models for decades, LOVE building and customizing them more than painting them and end up with a gigantic army of awesomely customized but half painted models. The Sons of Russ represent.

This actually sounds freaking amazing. I would seriously give just about anything to have a group of friends like that within 100 miles of me. Unfortunately, I grew up and moved away and my friends... well they did not.

Followed it through the WotC take over, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 (essentials), Pathfinder, and 5.0. Most of our super campaigns ran weekly, 12-hour sessions on tuesdays, for most of college. Once we all graduated, the games moved to Fridays and Weekends. I have not got to play a regular game for the past two years. Actually, if you read my intro, I started listening to Final Fantasy podcasts since RPG podcasts were starting to bum me out. Awesome gaming story, I don't have any favorite characters. I usually ran the games. Loved Ravenloft and Dark Sun, but Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms are always old favorites. One day we should try to run a game on Google+. I have dabbled in Savage Worlds from OG Deadlands to the most recent version of the rules. GURPS 3 and 4, FATE, Cthulhutech, Torg, Rifts, and maybe MERPS Board games I enjoy, but usually not the hardcore European ones. Too many victory conditions turn me off. Yes, they are outstanding games, but more complex than what I am looking for. I love playing TransAmerica and am dying to play my copy of House on Haunted Hill. Card games I need to stay away from. One blister pack leads to a 1000 dollar deficit. I started with Shadowfist and dabbled in MtG. I followed the Shadowfist revival on Kickstarter and do own the Feng Shui RPG. My wife and I got into the Kingdom Hearts card game. We tried the Harry Potter CCG which is supposedly a magic reskin, but never explored it enough. I have a ton of Inu Yasha cards unopened. People were dumping them on eBay so I picked up a couple of cases. They are fun to play with by building blind decks. I think that is what I enjoyed most about playing CCGs, just buying a deck and a few boosters and playing with what you had. I was never one for deck-building. Or rather, I spend way too much time building a deck and that ultimately leads to me spending hours organizing all my cards into binders. [/grognard]

I don't think I can do that D: The Warhammer futuristic RPGs were fun, but we had a lot of confusion when playing it. Each book is almost like a separate game, even though the powers have similar names. We were playing space marines, but the game master kept using the stats from rogue trader and we never really knew what are powers were supposed to do. Warhammer Quest is worth it if you can find it for under 100. Bloodbowl was fun, but my friends got way too competitive.
