Let's make it specifically RPGs, not not necessarily FF. I'd like to stick to RPGs but if you have a really good Halo one or something then that's cool too. I think in the past I've mistakenly believed I had reflect on my character when I planned to reflect a spell off of him, only to find out that my reflect wore off and killed my caster (Vivi...). Not a very specific example, but I feel like there's so many buried in my experiences that I just start to forget how embarrassing some of them are. There's also all the times in FFVIII I've been killed accidentally in what otherwise would be an easy battle because I took my time drawing magic. Then in FFVII when I tried to get the shadow flare enemy skill off of Ultima Weapon, only to die and lose when he casted it. You guys got any good ones?

I think it was God of War II where you have to climb this spiral tower type thing, fighting hordes of monsters all along the way near the end of the game. I was playing my first playthrough on one of the harder difficulty levels and I just could not kill all the monsters. It gives you the choice to lower difficulty periodically, but who does that?? After refusing it several times, it stopped asking. However... I couldn't get through the monsters. Ultimately, I waited like ten years until I got the remaster on PS3 before I finally beat that game for the first time...

I can't really think of anything for RPGs. But in my first playthrough of Until Dawn, I did accidentally kill a character in a stupid way...
Below are some spoilers for Until Dawn...
There is a character named Ashley in the game, and since my name is also Ashley I wanted desperately to have her survive. She got briefly separated from the rest of the group because she wanted to make sure that they couldn't be followed by the attacking monsters. She started to join with the rest of the group when she heard someone calling for help. It was a character who had been separated from everyone else for a majority of the game. She was on her own and had no idea that the teenagers were under attack from supernatural monsters. I was given the choice to either go after the voice or to rejoin the group. Since I was trying to save everyone, I felt I couldn't leave her alone with no idea what was going on, so I chose to go after the voice. Then I came up to a trap door that someone was banging on from below, with the girl I was going to save crying for help. And as I approached the crying stopped, but the banging continued. It was stupid, because just a little while before, the group had all learned that the monsters had the ability to impersonate a person's friends or loved ones to trick them, and I had forgotten all about that. So, without a second thought, I had Ashley open the trapdoor and... she immediately got her head ripped off by a monster...
She was the first character I lost, and probably my dumbest moment.

banedrom- I've never played a God of War but I'd really like to give it a chance sometime if it comes out for ps4. I enjoy challenges like that but I get the feeling if you can't do it then there's no way I could. lightsage- Probably won't end up playing that game anyway but thanks for the spoiler alert. Kind of sounds like the Last of Us, except with a choice progression. Do you get game over or just switch to a different character? Either way that's a pretty bad way to die

Either way that's a pretty bad way to die You don't get a game over from character death, you just switch to another character and any plot points that may have involved that character in the future will not happen. There are eight characters and every single one of them can die at some point of the game. Two of the characters have plot-armor until the final scene of the game, but they can both die at that point too. If all the characters are dead, you get the bad ending (and a trophy!) |
