Hey guys,
As a long time fan of the FF series I have had quite of few not-so-happy experiences when playing through some of these games. One such experience occurred when I had a friend from out of state who came to visit for a couple weeks when we were 12. During his visit we decided to play through FF2 (IV) on the SNES. We both took turns playing through the dungeons and progressed all the way until we reached the underground when.....the system got too hot and shut off, deleting our save file! So we did what every other fan of the game would do and started over from the beginning. After a couple days we had reached the moon and began level grinding. The next time we turned on the system....our save file was gone! We started a third game but never finished before his visit ended. I had never been so frustrated with a video game before! On the bright side, a few years back and in our mid 20's, I bought the game on virtual console and we finally finished it after a couple days and a few cases of Budweiser.
Anyway, I was wondering if you guys have ever had any experiences like this, either losing save files, getting to the point of no return and not being able to kill a boss, or general controller throwing moments?
Keep up the good work, I love the show! Way better than FF Union!
Thanks,
Battman

My Ps2 froze while I was in the final area of Final Fantasy 2. I had been using memo saves for about an hour, when the game just stopped working.... Soooo much leveling up lost!

Kaleb did already mention this in the most recent podcast (Final Fantasy Remakes and Remasters). I'm that "jake" haha, both me and kaleb we're both level grinding to take out Yiazmat and i was also finishing off the bestiary of the dreaded mandragora's so after finishing all 15 entries, i went to save and corrupted data. It happened because i had a short in both memory card slots of my ps2, to where i had to keep the memory card tilted up to remain "connected". I also remember "zack" a friend of mine and kaleb's sold all of his materia very early on in FF7 and couldn't find a way to cross the marsh into the mythril mine (where Midgar Zolom is). FYI: there is a way to cross without the need of a chocobo

It is I the other Kaleb. My worst experience from ff if with what i like to call "The Final Boss Evrae" in Final Fantasy X. I could never beat ten because of that mother fucker I leveled up, I looked at guides, followed advice, and even came up with my own strategies and got punked in the ass every time. I was even doing max damage with Rikku's limit but no mister poison worm god of hell was far to much for me to deal with.

are you referring to the first encounter with Evrae on the airship or the Evrae Altana in the Via Purifico?

There was also a time when I got to the floating continent on FFVI but did not spend enough time grinding levels. Most of the enemies were too strong for my party and I could not go to an easier area to level up! I ended up starting over. I hate point-of-no-returns!

WWelli have 2 stories,
1 when i first played FFX i lived with some mates and every night we would gring and play blitz until i had all Sphere grids complete and upgraded a lot and all but 3 dark aeons defeated and my house got robbed and i lost a 250hr file! I didnt even care about the ps2 or games taken just my precious memory cards i tried to start again but it was never the same, i just finished the game next time
2 Id played through most of the chapters in Tactics: WotL and unlocked all 8 bonus charicters and was aiming for unlocking dark knight in the midnight dungeon where i found a pig, thought nothi g of it and killed it only to find out litterally after that battle that the pig is hands down the BEST mob to catch and breed and you only encounter 2 in the whole game, and the first is in chapter 1. If you know tactics you know each battle can take 30m plus so to start again after that was painful but ultimately fantastic as i had a more fun the second time. Not as much horror and painful!

What isn't actually true about my post? it may not be a big "Horror Story" but to "zack" it seemed like a nightmare, because he sold his Chocobo lure and i had to help him cross the marsh on foot.

Jake is referring to the "glitch" where you save your game in the swamp, and the Zolom is reset after you exit the menu.
