What is the hardest thing you've done in a FF game that shouldn't have been so hard? This is not necessarily the hardest boss, or hardest dungeon, or even hardest mini game (chocobo races?). Instead this is something that for whatever reason you had an extremely difficult time with it. Joe having trouble with the lightning dodging on an inadequate TV comes to mind. The hardest thing I did in an FF game was get stuck in the Tower of Zot on FF4, and found myself under leveled. I had to make use of my limited items in order to level up to beat the magus sisters and the wind fiend at the top of the tower, not to mention the countless random encounters I went trough while trying to get to the save point. It was harder than taking a selfie with your own butthole. Anyway, what FF part was difficult for you guys that really shouldn't have been, and what were the circumstances?

1. When I first got FFVIII at like 13 I got stuck on Adel w/Rinoa Junction because I had a level 70 something party and only half understood the junction system, as in I had protect junctioned to my strength stat...
2. Getting Lionheart second time through FFVIII because I was going for it in disc 1.
3. Getting Wakka's overdrives. Hopefully Joe and Caleb know this but I refused to reset data until I got the league prizes I wanted and kept on playing regardless because I didn't want to lose my awesome team.

The first, and only complete, play through of FFVIII I didn't get certain items to get certain GFs and accordingly missed out on a ton of endgame stuff. This was back in the day before a walk through was available on an iphone at a seconds notice.
The hard part was facing the fact that I could lose 100 hours of game or give up on getting everything. Needless to say, I've never completed that game to its fullest. I will someday because I really do like that game.

Contrary to what everybody says I would still tell you to not avoid leveling up if you ever get around to replaying it. Grinding levels is silly but a deliberate low level playthrough (for me at least) doesn't seem like the way to go with this game. As long as you know how to junction you will be fine at any level. On a sidenote though it sounds like you're a hardcore perfectionist, which I can be too and I find it to be really annoying because I think to myself "I already accomplished all of this on my last file. Why do I feel compelled to do all the extra, annoying crap again?"

There was one boss in disk one of Final Fantasy IX when I did my recent play through that gave me a much tougher time than most bosses (besides superbosses, but those are expected to be hard, not a disk one boss!) I was under-leveled, completely out of healing items, and not strong or healthy enough to make it back out of the dungeon to restock at the near-by city. I was forced to restart and play the whole beginning of disk one again. That was the hardest thing I've ever done.
And, for the record, I did a little bit of level grinding, put more gil into buying health items, and the boss became a breeze the second time I met him.

Infinito Cloister in FFX-2 which is 100 level optional dungeon, every 20 floors you fought a boss and at around floor 60 it got hard i think i got to floor 80 before i completely gave up, I was level 100 using the Mascot dress spheres and i am sure i could have beat them but I just got over frustrated and gave up after a few days.
I had a friend actually reach the end only to get beat down by Trema at the end who you fight after fighting boss with no heal time between. Got to say so far i consider that dungeon the msot difficult in the series, though i haven't played the mmorpg's or 13 so may be worse ones now.

I beat the boss at the 80th floor, but never really felt the need to finish the whole thing. You don't need it for the mascot dress sphere, and you can get 100% game completion other ways.

Reminds me of the tower of the fanatics in FF6. I've made it all the way to the top and was not prepared and ran out of items, only to have to start all over again.

Yeah i knew it wasn't necessary but i always try to beat all the optional bosses in these games, was just a big bummer to do everything else and then get slapped down hard at the last part of the game.

That brings back nightmares I do not wish to relive. I had a problem with Mobile Type 8 on VIII during my very first playthrough. I also had problems with Raijin in Balamb on my first play through. VIII gave me a lot of trouble now that I think about it. The damn tree boss in the Iifa Tree as well as the Nova Dragon the first time in IX. Finding the last treasure chest in IX for the chocobo game was a pain. It was in the middle of the ocean and this was before we had Internet at my grandparents house. The reward was worth it though. My first play though on VII, I had a really hard time with the elevator fight in Shinra. The Water Fiend in IV gave me some problems as well.

VIII for me was in general hard mostly because I played it like i had the other game in the series and just simply tried to outlevel the enemies (didn't work lol) But i was like 10 when i played that game and i just didn't grasp that they leveled up with you lol VII I never had issues with most difficult part was Ruby and Emerald but there are so many strategies that work good to kill them that there not really a problem anymore. IX Been so long since i played it I can't remember it anymore :-( Hopefully will play it soon and refresh myself. The rest i really can't remember anything as well.

I always play VIII like the others. I know it's harder but I like it oddly enough. I think it works with the theme. It's suppose to have a gritty realism to it and what better says that than every battle being a survival scenario. I've been playing VIII lately. I have to reinstall VII to test my Steam version for Sephiroth and I'm sure I will come across more hard things in that.
