So listening to you guys discuss Megadeath and Metallica really brought back some memories for me. I'm not that old, but I'm old enough to remember experiencing basically those exact same discussions with my brother back when some of those albums were coming out. Specifically a lot of the Mustaine being in Metallica and how the sound of each Metallica album sound different. On to my question.
Do you think that an audience that can appreciate such a conversation still exists?
I can name no one that would even know who Dave Mustaine is. Even back in the day, it was a select group of people listening to metal who would know much about Kerry King or Megadeath. Nowadays, I feel like that is such a small sub genre of early late eighties metal that I fear there is very few people who know anything about it.

There is a burger joint in LA called Grill 'Em All. I visited there last month, and their were some young folks in there, all sportin' metal shirts. At first, my get-off-my-lawn instincts kicked in and I figured they were all hipsters participating in something just cuz. But after a while, it seemed that at least half the folks in there knew there stuff and I can imagine such a conversation taking place. On April 19, a podcast will be recording there and such a conversation may come up, but it probably will not be a young crowd.
So the conversation may still take place, but probably not as frequently as it might have. But on the flipside, I doubt many people in my high school could name Kerry King or Dave Mustaine in the early '90s. That level of metal always felt sub-genre where I was growing up. There may have been more shirts on campus than you can find now, but level of knowledge of the band members is probably constant.

80s metal is never going away. I know that young teens are still really into it and thats just proof that 80s music will forever live on.
You will still find young people talking about Guns n Roses and Metallica and they were born in like 2000.
