You guys know I haven't played through all of FFXI. I gave it a chance once, it didn't click with me at all, and I abandoned it for other games.
Now that you've "finished" it, how long did it take you to play through the game? I know you said it was about a month but I'm wondering more about hours of playtime. If I were to go back and play through what you guys just played how many hours in front of the computer am I looking at?
I'm also curious about how story-heavy the game is. I've been playing a lot of FFXIV lately and there's a ton of story in the main game all the way up through endgame. There are cutscenes and epic questlines. My initial playthrough of FFXIV up to level cap took a little under 50 hours and over 25% of that was story or cutscenes. How does FFXI compare? Is it more heavily leaning toward the MMO side, or does it devote a huge chunk of time to story in the same way that FFXIV does?

My game time was 80 hours and 21 minutes... Maybe 1 hour of that was story...

I wouldn't say an hour I would probably give it about 5 hours max story if you count the travel nessesary for specific quest.about 1 hour of that is strait talking. But again this is the base game and there wasn't much too it in the old days. The expansions pick up most of the story.

I think that Joe meant cut scenes/dialogue directly related to the story. If so, that 1 hour sounds about right.
