Heavensward is out this week! For those of you who don't know, it's the first expansion to FFXIV: A Realm Reborn. I've already been playing it for a few days while the early access week is going on and I'm having a really good time with it.
This got me wondering, what's your plan for playing through FFXIV? I know for FFXI you did the initial release and then played some of the expansion content.
For FFXIV you have:
Initial Release Ending Story content for Patch 2.1 Story content for Patch 2.2 Story content for Patch 2.3 Story content for Patch 2.4 Story content for Patch 2.5 Story content for Patch 2.55 and then Heavensward
FFXIV is kind of an outlier when it comes to MMOs. The content in the game is story-locked instead of level-locked. You can get to level 50, but until you play through all the story content from all the patches you can't start Heavensward. This makes it harder for new players to catch up, but it allows the developers to make the story truly matter and stay consistent throughout the experience.
So, what content are you planning to play through when you get to the game?

I actually really liked this about XIV. It did what XI should've done. And doing these story quests generally provides enough XP to maintain levels. Much less grinding needed.

The story in FFXIV is fantastic and I love how much story content they added for free with the patches. It wasn't on a long timeline either like other MMOs do it. It was basically new story content including new dungeons every 3 months. I've been super impressed with the game. This is honestly the first MMO I haven't felt bad paying a subscription for. They keep turning out content at a speed that makes it worth it to give them money monthly.

Man this game appears so often for 10 bucks I am tempted to buy it just to put it on my shelf. If I had confidence in it running well on my PS3, I would have picked it up already. For now, I will continue to wait until I buy a PS4.

For now, I will continue to wait until I buy a PS4. For 10 bucks? You need to take a picture of that... I can't beleive that. Also if your debating whether to buy it on ps3 or ps4 go with ps4 the ps3 version will be cutting support. Or if you can afford it I highly recccomend it on PC. I feel the quality is wag better on PC and I still think it was based to be on the PC and should stay there. If you enjoy the controller route you can buy a ps4 controller and do what banedrom and art did in 11 and play it like a console game. There is a menu in game that allows you to switch controller types. So their is that. Hope that helps.
