I think at this point both of you have had Final Fantasy games that you have replayed during the course of the show. Final Fantasy games you played before starting the podcast that you have gotten a chance to revisit.
For those games, how has your opinion changed after replaying the game?
For me the biggest change was for FFXIII. I hated it after beating it when it first came out. When replaying it a few months ago I knew what to expect going into it and that made a world of difference. I actually like FFXIII now. That's a massive change from before.
So, how about you guys. How have your opinions changed for FF games you've replayed?

To put it simply my opinion has never changed but evolved as time has passed. I'm 29 so from 1 to 2 (4) there was a major difference and they continue to set that trend as the series progressed. Some people embrace it, accept it, or don't. I do.

I detested FFX for a long time, played the hell out of the games, even bought the international releases. But I always felt the story and characters were super uninteresting and weak so the game was super unmemorable to me in that regard. Funnily enough, after playing XIII series and garnering a deeper appreciation for Toriyama's writing style, my interest in X's narrative increased a bit. Then I read the ultimania of X, and was pretty blown away. Which is saying a lot since I don't typically play FF for the story haha.
but I have such a fonder appreciation of X after doing so, I'd even go so far as to say it's got of the best narratives in the franchise.

My first play-through of XII was not very enjoyable. I didn't follow the story, I wasn't able to properly comprehend the battle/gambit system, and I didn't like how 'open' the game felt, particularly when compared to FFX where it was always very clear what to do next. I didn't even finish the game the first time around.
About 3 years later when I played it the second time everything changed and it is now probably one of my top 3 in the series. Not sure exactly what changed, but probably me just being older and more mature and more willing to invest in the story/world.

I heard so many negative things from the internet FF fans about FF13 despite it receiving great reviews. I was expecting the worst game ever so when I got it and played it I was surprised that the game was good and I was enjoying it I was expecting something bad so my mindset was expecting disappointment and not surprise.

It's super saddening to think that there are even more people who are also in that place of uncertainty in regards to playing XIII or not, but won't do it at all because of a bunch of moralistic fanboys and their reprobate opinions. Most people I know who played XIII all the way through weren't disillusioned by it :/ It's such a good experience, but to each their own I suppose.

Too bad this forum didn't exist when we all played ff xii for the first time it seems all of those in this forum seem to have a very accepting feeling of the game.

I love XIII! Following Kaleb's play through, I'm now on my 8th time going through the game. It's gorgeous, great story, one of the best game plays, and yes its a bit linear if you rush through it but do the normal FF amount of grinding and it won't seem so. Not to mention when you view the game as the trilogy, I'm sure a lot of ppl would wish Lightning Returns was more linear. That game is so wide open you can mess up from the beginning. I never let someone else for my opinion for me.
