Well as the title says, What Do You Want More of and Less of in Final Fantasy?
(I heard this question on FFUnion and would love to get both of the greatest podcast hosts take on this. As well any of my forum brethren.)
I would like to see more of:
-Darker Stories. -Tragic Characters. -Well thought out romances. -Really likable characters. (For instance most of the cast of 9 was likable.)
I would like to see less of:
-Unlikable Characters. (Most of the cast of 13, except for Sazh.) -One Sided Romances. (Sera and Snow. Worst FF Romance. As well as Cloud and Aeris.) -Less confined worlds. (More to explore)

As well any of my forum brethren.) I would like to see more of: -Darker Stories. FF Type 0 -Tragic Characters. FF Type 0 and uh most FF games for that matter too *cough* Zack, Aeris etc.*cough* -Well thought out romances. they've been doing good so far -Really likable characters. (For instance most of the cast of 9 was likable.) I agree although some hate the 9 cast. Especially Quina, Eiko etc. I would like to see less of: -Unlikable Characters. (Most of the cast of 13, except for Sazh.) Oooh those are fighting words. Fang, Lightning and Snow are awesome. and Vanille and Hope have pretty sad background stories especially Vanille. -One Sided Romances. (Sera and Snow. Worst FF Romance. As well as Cloud and Aeris.) uh Cloud is with Tifa and the Snow and Serah is great in my opinion. -Less confined worlds. (More to explore) I agree with you here. ^^^ I edited your post above and added my thoughts next to them. More story More fluid fast innovative gameplay and battle systems more good music more good characters more environments and areas to explore more cool enemies, bosses and villains to fight with unique designs.

(More to explore) I think the core love story in VII was Cloud and Tifa, I think their bond was a solid love story, in terms of real love and only being romantic if you interpret it that way.

I would really like to see more mature characters that act realistically. I'm ok with the worlds and situations being crazy and outlandish, but often in Final Fantasy the characters just act in a stupid manner based on what is happening around them.
I'd also really like to see a main character over the age of 21. It seems like most Final Fantasy characters are between the ages of 13 and 21. I think a lot of us who have grown up on Final Fantasy would relate better to a character in their 30s or 40s.
It would be great to see some more family dynamics at play too. Most of the characters in the series seem isolated from their family. Occasionally someone has a mother or father or grandfather... but it's super rare to see a character with a fully realized family.

Well, as far the tragic characters go, I don’t really consider Aeris to be all that tragic. I mean, you hardly have her for that long, and if you’re like me and don’t use her in your team then her death has even less of an impact. Zack though, I agree with. His story was really tragic/sad. As for the cast of 13, most of them just didn’t seem real to me I guess (Only way I can explain it.) Sazh just seemed the most human. Though your comments above really make me want to play Type-O, can’t wait.

Cloud is the oldest at 21. Unless you count lighting in 13-2 and 13-3. When they do have older characters like galuf and tell an they just kill them. I think having a story about an older dude in his fifties would be fucking awesome.

I think having a story about an older dude in his fifties would be fucking awesome. Aren't these stories supposed to be about the personal journey of someone coming to age? Having younger characters are easier to connect with than some old war torn SOB. That's also why the aurons and orlandus are so badass. Id love to see a story where you play the bad guy. Your goals and ambition of your party starts off small and evolves into pure evil. They can dress is however they like but in the end you destroy the universe. What I really want is a game that can hold my interest till the end. Of the ones Iv played through all the way i have done several times over.

I think that square just likes younger hero's. It's not a bad thing but it would be cool to change it up.

I think IV would have been really cool if Cecil changed near the end, instead of the beginning.

I think Auron was a really cool older character, a lot was left unsaid but I liked that he was mysterious and cool.
