For some reason when the leaves start to fall in autumn I always crave an RPG. I actively seek one out. This happens, without fail, every fall. The same type of thing happens to me around Christmas and New Years, except I want to play a Mario game. I think this may be tied to the times of year I played these type of games as a kid. I have lots of memories of playing RPGs in the fall and I have a super strong memory of getting my SNES and playing Super Mario World for Christmas. I'm pretty sure these are what influence the feelings.
So, do you guys have any games or game genre that you crave at different times of the year? Does the holiday season have any strong gaming memories for you?

Sounds like a great Psychological question.
"Tell me about your feelings." "Did you receive an RPG around this time that sticks to you?"
There are only THREE games that do that to me, and, to go along with your point, they are rooted in seasons, and it's definitely because of nostalgic reasons.
During the Spring, I ALWAYS want to play Ultima Online. The smells, the temperatures, and even the sights, make me want to play that game deeply. During the Fall (September) I want to play Eternal Sonata. Again, it's all associated with sensory memories, but also, I remember 100% completing the game while my son was very young (mere months old) During the Winter, it's (coincidentally) Final Fantasy VIII. As I explained on the Podcast, there's always memories of that girl attached to that game, and while I'm way over her and everything, it's always going to be a part of me.
It's quite fascinating to think about the psychology behind the things we do. It's been often said that the Olfactory sense is the strongest, and I can definitely attest to it. That's why certain smells will ALWAYS be associated with certain things, regardless if want to believe it. You may recall things through sight, touch, and aurally, but the nose is quite a strong little body part. You'll recall your strongest memories through your nose.
Sorry to get off topic there, but I find all these things quite fantastical.

I love finding out more about human psychology. It's fascinating what triggers memories and cravings.

My mum bought VII for me for Christmas, I knew absolutely nothing about it and never played an RPG before. Ended up getting instantly lost in it for years going back to it after a few months each time I finished it. Didn't stop going back to it until I done it 100%. As for SA2 I saw a poster in a shop 3 weeks before Christmas and pleaded my mum to get me a Dreamcast so I could play it lol. A stressful 3 weeks for her that year. Those are my Christmas games anyway haha.

Sonic 3 will always have a special place in my heart for xmas time games. Its probably the first game i ever beat. Then the revolutionary Sonic and knuckles came out with the reverse playability so much fun. It's really to bad that series never had anything better past those games.

Yeah they could have done a lot with that series. I wish they would have included knuckles in smash bros. Also nice profile pic.
