Do you think anything has been lost as the Final Fantasy series has evolved?
Each game is different from the last and lives in its own universe. As Final Fantasy fans we've come to love this reinvention of the series with each entry. Typically we talk about how much better each game is compared to the last.
But, do you think there is anything that the older games in the series do better than the modern games?

I miss the job class system that was in ff5 and tactics, and even 3, I've seen other games do it pretty well after those games but ff hasn't gone back.

Bravely Default picked up the job system and ran with it. But you're right, since they dropped Final Fantasy from the title and changed it to it's own series it doesn't count.

Many fans seem to agree that "exploration" and "adventure" have kinda been lost starting with FFX. Even though FF12 and FF13-2 and 13-3 weren't linear and had a lot of exploration.
I'm fine with the linearity for some games or parts but I do like to have some FF games have a huge world to explore.
Also some think that after the PS1 FF games the story quality of FF kinda went down a little and I sorta agree even though I really loved the story for FF10 and 13.

I kinda agree with Shinryu about the story, in a sense. I don't think it's strictly speaking the story itself. Although FFX's was really well done without being overly confusing, XIII's was too mixed up and poorly explained for me. What I think has been missing since at least X is that feeling of it being a fantasy world. That feeling you get when you turn on the game and truly feel like you're in a different and really cool world. XIII never made me feel that way. XII DEFINITELY never made me feel that way. For any Skyrim fans out there, it's kind of that feeling when you start to explore the world for the first time. I guess the element of escapism. All of the newer FFs try to be all grandiose, but they try so hard that it falls flat on it's face. I think Lightning in XIII is a good example of this. not long after she becomes a l'cie she decides "oh lets just destroy the sanctum because I'm grumpy". So the game makes you think you'll be taking down basically the entire planet and they hype it up, but it didn't feel natural like in something like FFX. People complain about Tidus' personality, but I think he counterbalanced the seriousness and sadness of that world. I'm really ranting now so I apologize, but I think Final Fantasy has really lost that feeling. It's hard to explain exactly what it is, and its different for everybody, but hopefully that made sense.
