I remember when it was mandatory to have two controllers for your console (and if you were lucky enough to get a multi-tap - four controllers). But even during those times, there were still single player games. I remember watching a friend play through the Legend of Zelda. Watching or taking turns playing the first two Final Fantasy games were the only way I got to play them. Watching a friend play FF III/VI and Chrono Trigger is the reason I am a fan.
Does this still happen now? Do any of you folks hang out with friends in the same place while you play Single-Player games?
I don't, but I think that is because I am married and have a daughter. I remember many a weekend of bringing my PS2 over to a friends house. He would play EQ on the computer while I played whatever RPG related game. We would break for food or Adult Swim. Sometimes we would make random people on Tony Hawk or Wrestling games (Ah Jesus vs Santa, that was a match to witness). Now, I usually play on a hand-held while my daughter watches MLP or plays, or she watches me while I play a console game (she loves the music and colors of FFX).
So does this still exist, or is it all about playing in separate places but connected by the internet?

Yeah we would take turns trying to beat hard bosses in Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts and take turns after one of us died and let the other one try to see if they could beat the boss.

Kaleb, joe, and I all hang out and play 9 sometimes. Kaleb often came over to play all the ff games. He and I also talk on Teamspeak while playing different games. I even play Pokemon with our friend Dylan and we race to see who gets where faster.
