I asked this question in Random some time ago, but was thinking about it again as I powered up my Vita for the first time. In Random, I asked what games caused you to buy/ask for what systems. Instead of just regurgitating that same discussion here, I thought I would add another step. I often found myself buying a system for a certain game, but ended up discovering a whole new series down the road.
I bought an Atari 2600 because it was 10 dollars in a thrift shop and came with 20 games, but ended up discovering River Raid. I bought a NES to play Zelda, but ened up loving Super Mario Brothers 2. I bought a SNES to play Final Fantasy 3 (6) and Chrono Trigger, but ended up really enjoying Dr. Mario.
I bought a PS2 to play Final Fantasy 9, but ended up really enjoying the Tony Hawk series. The PS2 was the Golden Age of gaming for me. I discovered so many series and still buy games for it.
I bought an artic DS to play Final Fantasy 3 (the actual 3), but ended up discovering My Chinese Language Coach. I bought a PSP to play GTA Vice City Stories , but ended up using it as a music and video player.
I bought a PS3 because my wife wanted a Blu-Ray player. Weird now that I think about it. There was no game I was excited to play on it.
I bought a 3DSXL to play SMT IV/Bravely Default, but ended up really enjoying the Theathrythm games.
So after you bought a system for a game, what other games did you end up discovering?

I got a PSP to be able to play things like MGS Peace Walker and others that flesh out the stories of game worlds I already know, play games in the series' I already love and enjoy as well as having the idea of using it as a general media player. Instead, all I have played on it is:
FF 7 FF9 Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Future Cop: LAPD.
Yep, all PS1 games (and no, I'm not just saying this because of the nature of this forum).

I bought a PS Vita because I love handheld gaming and wanted to play some of the exclusives.
I've ended up using it primarily to play PSOne Classics games that I downloaded off of PSN.

I, too, really got into Star Ocean games. Once FF left turn-based combat behind, I turned to Star Oceans to try to fill that hole. I could not get into the second one. Should I give it another chance, or just jump to later games?

Soon the nature will change...

Should I give it another chance, or just jump to later games? It's worth giving it a second chance. I have the "nimble fingers" talent and learned to steal from the NPCs and I've gotten a lot of good equipment. Story doesn't seem as strong as in the first game but it's still pretty good.
