So I don't know if anyone noticed, but in the variety of games Squall has been in, he has changed the most in appearance. I liked his style in VIII, the leather jacket was cool. In Kingdom Hearts, he was even better. He looked as if he had gone through training, he looked stronger and got even a cooler jacket. Then...Dissidia came about and made him look kinda like a little bitch, excuse my French. Did this bother anyone else?

Same happened to Cloud. He was cool in FF7, He looked great in Kingdom Hearts and then in Dissidia they made him a whiny bitch.
I didn't like what Dissidia did to some of the characters like Squall and Cloud.

Agreed, I love the concept of Dissidia itself, but the design route they took was disappointing. I don't know if they were trying to appeal to younger audiences or what but they need to stop. I think Kingdom Hearts was successful in many ways, but one of them was their truth to the series.

Square does a lot of costume changes in their games lately because the Japanese people are really big into the whole costume change thing. That's why it was ever so present in X-2, 13-3 and Lightning Returns. You can even see it in FF Explorers. So I think they were just aiming to please the Japanese audience with Disssidia as well. I also saw it as though in Dissidia they were plucked from their respective worlds to fight in the war during the events of the game or possibly even before. That is why they seem extra young or inexperienced. That's just how I always saw it at least.

I didn't see the trend on the Japanese market though, that's an interesting point. I wonder how much influence Western culture has on their decisions. VIII was very heavily influenced in my opinion.

I think 8 was the most influenced by western culture, but the outfits were still pretty damn weird.

I think 8 was the most influenced by western culture, but the outfits were still pretty damn weird. That's a Square Enix staple. If you don't get an overly exaggerated piece of clothing, hair, or personality; it's not Square Enix, haha. In some respects I like the absurdity of it mostly because it feels like a fantasy when some weird element is introduced.

In some areas they succeeded, character design? Most NPCs look good, but the main characters outfits can be a little over the top. Typical SE!

When you say typical SE, I immediately thought of Family Guy. Who else but Square?!
