Although I am not new to the genre, I thought this is a relevant question.
What at advice would you give to someone who was a budding gamer who just randomly bought this game when it comes out for the PS4. Maybe they know it is the tenth entry in an epic series. Maybe they think its called Final Fantasy X and have no idea what Roman numerals are. Either way... What would you tell someone who is picking this game up and never played it or another final fantasy. Advice? Warnings?

Honestly for FFX I don't think warnings are necessary. The opening is gripping enough that I think most people would give it a good chance unless they were expecting a first person shooter or something. Earlier titles I would caution them due to graphics or pacing, but I think that's one of the sweet things about FFX is that it's really as shallow or deep of gameplay as you want and the story is great without being overly confusing or polarizing.

I would warn them that FF10 is the last "great" FF game. Everything else afterward just doesn't seem to reach that same balance of gameplay and story.

For most Final Fantasy games in general, I would warn them about the importance of not running away from every random encounter. While Final Fantasy games can be beaten with no or low leveling, that's only for expert players who know the games inside and out.
