So today I've been reading through a lot of threads- it's so nice to see so many fellow fans and generally interesting people in one place. With that in mind- does anyone like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Not trying to stir the pot if anyone is super against Bronies...although I've discovered they're generally pretty nice people. I'm a huge fan myself, and was wondering if anyone else watched the show. Luna is Best Princess.

The only MLP I ever saw was the documentary about Bronies. I admit I watched the original show, which seems to be much less popular than the newer show. I find it interesting what a phenomenon the whole Bronies thing is.
Sadly, I am no Bronie, but I wont discriminate those who are.

haha that Brony documentary was super cute. MLP was something I watched as a kid, then my older sister got me watching it a few years ago. I think it's adorable- the animation is cute, and it's all about friendship so it's hard to hate too much. The Brony phenomenon is both interesting and nerve grinding...but as a whole, they're great people. As for the Equestrian Girls movies- right there with ya, Ganty Rose- Rainbow Rocks was fun, and definitely better than the first

I watch it all the time with my daughter and wife. My daughter is two and she makes me play certain episodes over and over. I would not consider myself a brony, but very familiar with it. My wife and I were discussing going to a convention in September, but I don't think my daughter will have much to do there. We may just go to Disneyland and then walk across the street to look at the cosplayers.
Hmm, best princess? I would have said Cadance just because that is my daughters English name, but she does not appear enough. Celestia drives me nuts. She is either really dumb or really manipulative.

Haha, not a lot of people are fans of Celestia. Brony's are definitely a different sort of fan- I tried getting my bf into the show, but he's just not having it.

I'll have to watch the documentary though.

I'm really creeped out by this idea... Watch the documentary. I am not going to lie, I cannot tell if this documentary is mocking or supporting them. Maybe it is so well done and so unbiased that my everyone can project their own interpretation into it. Either way, that documentary made sure that I would likely not really get into this phenomenon. I'll stick with 90s anime as my guilty pleasure. And Evangelion as my non-guilty pleasure because no one should be guilty about liking that show.

Did you see the article about Hideaki Anno (the Evangelion creator) believing Japanese anime to be in a huge decline? Really interesting read- it's on Kotaku.

I believe it. If you know anything about Anno, he is very non-conformist. A lot of people really don't like that about him actually.
Anno is like a personal idol of mine. I really like that he took something like his personal depression, something that is very repressed in that culture, and turned it outward into one of the most epic series I have ever seen. As passionate as these Bronies are, I am equally passionate about Evangelion. It has taken me a decade of watching those 26 episodes, but I really do understand it on a level that no one ever should. If I was ever going to do a podcast, it might be an Evangelion one.

I've only ever watched the whole series once- it started as an obligation to watch it (what kind of anime fan HASN'T seen Evangelion?!) but I really liked it. I need to go back and rewatch parts of it- I feel like once you know how it ends, there is so much more to be gleaned from the series. Another underrated, off beat stand-alone anime movie is Angel's Egg- It's only about an hour and a half and has maybe a dozen lines of speech-but it's by far the strangest anime I've seen. It's from the 80's, and also- Yoshitaka Amano did the artwork. I would encourage anime fans to give it a watch, if only to scratch your head and try and figure it out!
