It looks like everybody is pretty pumped about a remake for ffvii, even though it won't come out until I'm probably 35 (around 2028) at the pace square seems to move. However what has me excited is that square is open to doing full out remakes of games. I'm really hoping now that they'll look into doing an FFVIII remake if/when this game does well. Most people agree that FFVII really didn't have any issues in the combat or anything. While FFVIII had some really tedious mechanics that in my opinion kept it from near perfection. And they could probably fix some of the kinda corny dialogue that can be annoying. I suppose FFVI could be up there too but I'm not sure if there's a community demand for a remake. FFIX remake could be good but I don't think that really calls for one either. Do you guys think this opens up the potential for other remakes? And if so which are you most excited for/needs it the most?

Also don't want them changing the storyline for any of the remakes but would love extra content like more bosses, dungeons, enemies summons and more back-story in some cases. My view is if purests hate this they don't need to play it and it allows a new generation to enjoy the stories and characters we loved as youths. And like you said it would allow them to fix glitches and dialogue issues that were a big issue in earlier games and maybe fine tune the game-play as they have had more then a decade of feed back on the games to work with. Either way this news is great, but it adds the question when will this be out? Hoping not more then 2 years but i fear square may take awhile because they won't want to fuck up something this big, which is why i think they been hesitant to do it for so long, for fear of tarnishing the legacy of one of there best games ever.

Didn't they say that they won't remake VII until a Final Fantasy surpasses it? When did this happen?!?!

Pre orders for 15 were very good I imagine ;-) Or it could be a money grab, everyone who know final fantasy 7 even a little bit will be clamoring for this even people who don't even like FF will get in on this, all i got to say is I am buying some square enix stock today ;-)

6 & 9 deserve it the most, considering they really haven't given them any attention compared to the others in the series. 6 would have a good amount a "notoriety" to be remade but 9....I don't really think anybody but the DIEHARDS would really care, sad but true

Eiko automatically is going to have the most annoying voice ever if we're honest, although that's not really a reason I guess. I definitely would like it, don't get me wrong. I just feel like 6 and 8, mostly 8, need one first

So I watched the E3 presentation (which was pretty lack luster), basically SE isn't expanding on FFVII until winter 2015. This kinda blows but makes sense, if they started diving onto any info it would kill the spotlight for KHIII and FFXV. We'll probably get a good amount of information/ trailers once FFXV is released. A theory around the interwebs is that the reason why production for FFXV and KHIII have been going at a snail's pace is because they have been developing FFVII for awhile. This would set the release date a year or two after FFXV release, (2017/ early 2018), thus not taking away from that installment. If it has just started production (which was hinted in the poem/monologue in the trailer) the earliest we could see it is 2019/2020 just going by the amount of detail they have already put into those clips of Midgar. That would be awful. I want it now.

For Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX: I'd like an overhaul on graphics but no-touchie the story. I would also keep the battle systems the same, with the exception of Final Fantasy IX, which I would just speed up. Fixing the random nature of Trance is optional, but not necessary.
For Final Fantasy VIII: A basic graphic overhaul, but a major battle overhaul would be needed. Either keep the Draw system but make it easier, maybe make Draw magic a reward for random battles instead of having to waste a turn drawing it from enemies and running away. That would make random battles necessary again. Or just get rid of the Draw system all together for a more traditional battle system. (I vote for the later, but whatever...)
Final Fantasy XII: Like Final Fantasy VIII, it just needs work on the battle system. The gambit system was pretty good in theory, but it made battles just too automated. The right set of gambits could get you through most battles in the game without touching a single button. So maybe limit gambits to support actions like healing and casting status effects, and leave attacking and stuff to player input.

I like to think of it as shinning a game up for newer people to enjoy(people who were not yet born when 7 was out and know won't even give it a look due to graphics) Hopefully this will excited older people who have played this game and help younger people get into the fun :-) But honestly think they should leave other final fantasy alone for a bit, mabey have them try to remake Chrono Trigger next? Don't get me wrong i like the idea of a remake of 8 9 but i feel like they should mix it up a bit to spread the fun around to there other enjoyable franchises. I mean they own Dragon Quest as well know so wouldn't it be exciting to see that series get a remake to Dragon Quest 4 :-)
