Yes, I am that guy who is desperate for an FF7 remake, I think it is without a doubt the best FF game and IMO the best game ever made... srs I would love to see a remake made and I cannot believe with so many fans screaming for it that it has not been done. I want to get Kalleb and Joe's opinions on a FF7 remake, and why other game companies are happy to bleed a popular franchise like spyro or zelda or crash bandicoot to death but square won't capatalise on further success with how popular FF7 was. Yes I know they did crisis core and that did extremely well, so why don't they do more? I also can't understand how square will create 3 sequels to the FF13 saga but they won't remake FF7 or release a carry on game. Can I just point out that Sephiroth is still alive! there is still sooooo much space for a new story! and it would make sooooo much money! Anyway, it would be great to hear your guys views on it. Peace!

I know there have been multiple interview as to why they won't do a FFVII remake. Whether they're just trying to make impossible odds, or just being coy, it was at a Q&A session for shareholders a few years ago:
" In a Q&A session of Square Enix's annual shareholder's briefing, CEO Yoichi Wada said that a remake of Final Fantasy VII will happen once the company makes a new Final Fantasy title that succeeds the seventh game in terms of quality and sales, something the company has to date failed to do.
If Square Enix were to release a remake right now, Wada said that the series would be done for. He also said that staff members assigned to the supposed project would have to be fully committed to it if it were in the pipeline."
This was just in Feb. 2014 "Final Fantasy VII director Yoshinori Kitase, who is now series producer for the Final Fantasy franchise, has spoken about the prospect of making the highly-requested HD remake of the iconic PS1 RPG.
"I can honestly tell you I would love to do that," said Kitase in an interview with Eurogamer. "If you simply ask me if I personally would like to do that, yes I would. Definitely. There's no lie about it. But you must believe me when I say it would take a lot to happen."
Kitase said that "staff availability and budget" were two major barriers to remaking the 1997 classic, but he also explained that he simply wasn't motivated right now to take on the massive undertaking and responsibility of remaking one of the most beloved games of all time.
"Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility," he said.
"I don't know if those three things will happen simultaneously. It has to tick lots of very big boxes. I won't rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen."
The developer added that, if a Final Fantasy VII remake were to ever happen, it would definitely be the biggest project of his entire career.
"But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I've done," Kitase concluded. "My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I'm very happy with. It's a huge thing for me."
Kitase also said that, following Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, he has no knowledge of Square Enix planning a HD remake of Final Fantasy XII, but wouldn't rule out the possibility entirely"
My opinion? I don't want a remake, necessarily. With having the PC version, and the mods that have been available for that, I'm currently satisfied for a faux-HD remaster. I think people interuse Remake and Remaster, and none of these games have recently been remade. We saw all sorts of remakes for the first 4 versions of the game, but nothing big for the last bunch. I'm happy with graphical updates, but whole remakes? I think any tampering of the original game engine would kill the games for me. The nostalgia is part of what makes them still fun to play.

Yeah I wouldn't want remake, if anything just a full graphic overhaul. I doubt they would do anymore than that.

I know people keep wanting this remake, but I personally feel that if they are going in that direction I would rather see them take all of the elements that we live from FF7 and either build off of the game in a sequel or create a whole new FF game keeping the original systems in tact.

Another ff in the vein of 7 would be awesome. The materia system is one of my favorites, as I think it rivals the job system.

The material system is awesome but I think I like the magic/ability system in FF9 better. The game makes you want to use every piece of equipment you find and once you learn an ability you can use it whenever you want.

I did like 9s way of doing it. But I feel like the materia offered more.

Yeah the material system did have a little more customization, but it was kind of a pain in the ass when you had to change your setup every time you changed your equipment. I guess that's where the strategy comes in though.

yeah it also allowed for any character to be a mage and not just have one be that role. It also keeps on most of the materia you have when you change equipment but not if you're lowering the slots.

That's true, in FF9 you couldn't customize which character was a fighter vs a Mage. I guess when I play games where you can customize your character roles I end up designating them on my own anyway.
