Not an important enough question for the show, but I was wondering how other people choose which podcasts to listen to out of the thousands that are available?
If it's an educational podcast, then I just search for topics that I'm interested in (like astronomy) and then look through the offerings for active podcasts.
If it's a fan podcast, then it usually starts with me in front of my bookcase, and thinking "I like that book or movie or tv show... I wonder if there's a podcast for it..." And then going from there.

Well I write stuff I'm interested in the search bar but I also look at the top rankings for most popular shows too. Usually the stuff at the top is there for a reason. Also I look for shows that seem to have hosts that get along and their conversations seem like the ones real friends in real life have.

I second this, a quick search for what your interested in will get you a long way. I like to also backtrack and listen to all the old shows to see how fare along the shows have gone. The hardest thing to do is finding the podcasts that are active. There are tons of podcasts out there that 'pod-fade' where they simply stop putting out content (or only upload every three months)

For me, a podcast is active if they've posted in the last month. I'll also take a quick moment to look at the next episode down and see when it was released. If that episode was, like, three years ago... then I'm less likely to think of them as active.
It doesn't work all the time though. Once I was subscribed to a podcast for about six months, and only got about two or three updates on no set schedule during that time.
The podcasts that I have currently are all weekly, bi-weekly, and there's even two monthly ones.

I started listening to podcasts when I went to a con and listened in on a live show. Then started with theirs, from there I looked for ff podcasts and looked for nerdiest network shows and went on from there. If current podcast I'm listening promotes a new cast I jump over and listen to it. So personally put in your interests from life in to the search and that's it.
