In the past games specifically like FF7, FF8, FF10 and even Kingdom Hearts really attracted a great deal of teens and new gamers to play those games and eventually join the FF fandom.
What are some games either already released or going to release in the future that you think will greatly attract a new audience or generation of kids that never got to play FF before?
I think that Dissidia, Crisis Core, FF13 really attracted a new generation of gamers to the series (even Hiroyuki Ito and Tabata I think mentioned this in an interview) and FF Type 0 and FF15 are games which will probably appeal to a newer audience and help the FF fanbase grow even more.
Thoughts? Do you think this is likely to attract the "Call of Duty and Minecraft" generation of gamers to FF?

I don't have the data to support this, but there seems to be a correlation between a new system and the first Final Fantasy games released on them to attract a new audience.
FFVII for Playstation FFX for PS2 FFXIII for PS3 And now Type-0 and FFXV for PS4
It makes sense that some gamers would give this series a try on a new console. Interestingly enough, those are some of the better games as well.

There definitely seems to be different 'waves' of fans that seem to correlate with new consoles. I think there's the old-school fans who have been with it since FF1-FFIV, and then FFVII, which was many people's first FF, brought a whole new wave, as did FFX and FFXIII. I suspect FFXV will do the same. I feel fortunate being with it since the beginning because I think it can be sort of an intimidating series to come in to. I would have no idea which game to start with, especially when pretty much every fan has a different opinion on which game is best.
I mean, I've never actually played a Metal Gear Solid game. I understand that they are very popular and critically acclaimed, but I just don't know where to start. Do I play the most recent game? The first game? The 'best' game? I suspect newcomers to FF might have some of the same concerns.
Anyway, new fans to the series are good, although I admit that sometimes it's hard not to be a bitter and cynical purist, having been with the series since day one.

To answer your question about MGS If you have a Ps3 or Vita just buy Metal Gear Solid 1 (PS1) its available on PSN store and play it and beat it. Afterwards if you have a PS3 just buy the MGS HD Collection which has MGS 2-3 and Peace Walker then just buy MGS4 separately and you are all set for the upcoming MGS5. Also MGS1 MGS2 and MGS3 are some of the best games ever made.

I agree that FF15 will likely be the game to bring new fans to the series. Whether it will do a good enough job of making them want to come back for more remains to be seen. See: FF13.

But do you think that the Legacy Collection would be a better deal since it comes with more games, including all the ones you mentioned? It seems like a good deal, unless I'm missing something.

Get the legacy collection. And in my experience its best to play games from a series in order, even if there are prequels that are released later. I have played series where the second game in the series was a prequel, so I played it first followed by the original. Generally speaking gameplay tends to improve as a series progresses, so going back and playing an older game might not be enjoyable if you play a later game first. I don't think you will enjoy MGS1 if you've played 2 or 3 first.

Oh if you can find the Legacy Collection still for a good price then that is best choice since it includes MGS 1-4 and Peace Walker as well as some non canon bonus games and stuff. Just be sure to play them in order MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4 (then play Peace Walker since its more connected to the upcoming MGS5) If after you play all that maybe get MGS Ground Zeroes while you wait for MGS5 since its a small 2 hour game that serves a prequel to MGS5. If you can play PS1 games like FF 7, 8 and 9 the graphics on MGS1 shouldn't bother you. I played it again last year and I still think the game looks very good for a PS1 game. I suggest you play on the normal difficulty for all the games. Too hard is annoying for starters and easy just ruins the game) I suggest NOT to use guides or anything while playing through the games unless you really need to or get stuck. There are some very famous parts about the games that will confuse you but are lots of fun to figure out. Get ready for some great gameplay, story, characters and music

Awesome, thanks for the info! I've been playing games since the 8-bit days so playing a game with older graphics won't bother me at all. I agree with playing without a guide, I try to play all new games totally blind the first time through, and then on subsequent playthroughs when I'm going for 100% or whatever I'll look at guides, but it's way more fun when you don't know what to expect or what to do. I ordered the Legacy Collection last night

I think FFXV is going to attract new people. It's the first (non MMO) FF game that's releasing since FFXIII in 2009. It's also the first FF game on a new system, which seems to draw new players too.
