My first system was the original NES. My first game was Gauntlet, Duck Hunt, Mario, and that damned marble game. My history after that was the SNES (mostly Legend of Zelda:Link to the Past and Super Mario Bros), PS where my first game I played on/saw on that was FF7 which cultivated my love for the series, then it was the Gamecube which in my opinion was a fantastic system, PS2, Xbox where I fell in love with the Elder Scrolls through Morrowind, and then there was a long period until I got the Xbox 360. I have yet to get any next gen systems. I think my favorite system was in fact Gamecube. It was reliable, competitive graphics, and some really great titles. Everything Nintendo lost in the following generations maybe until very recently. Eventually I want to get a PS4 to get on PSN and rekindle my love for the earlier Final Fantasy games not on Steam. Ps4 version of PSN isn't backwards compatible. You have to get a PS3 if you want to buy most of the FF games on that PSN. Well that's good to know, where did I hear otherwise? There seems like there is always some sort of barrier.

My very first gaming console was a Nintendo NES. Loved it, and had some very fond memories playing games with my siblings growing up. I then had a Playstation for about....well, until the Playstation 2 came out. Then, when the next gens came out, I purchased an XBox to tinker with. I wound up buying an X-Chip, which was an emulator that had every single NES, SNES, and SEGA game ever made on it, and soldering it onto the hard drive of the XBox- got a ton of use out of that. I bought a 360, and for the last 7ish years have been gaming mostly there. I only recently bought a PS3, an older version that plays PS1 and 2 games, and still use my Vita and occasionally my Nintendo DS. In the last few years, I've slowly been seeking out and buying older consoles, and now have almost a dozen including a Game Gear and an Atari 1200XL that I found at a yard sale in the original box. My love of games extends to all systems- no discriminating here <3 Favorite system by far is the PS2. It had the most impressive library, and games were being released on it for a long time after the next gens came out. While I do love how the online interfaces allow for game demos, trials, and downloads, there is something about having all of those pretty game cases lined up on a shelf. To this day I buy physical copies of games whenever I can, because to me, that's the best way to own a game. I'll be getting a PS4 soon for XIV, and am so excited to join the next gen crowd <3 Is there a game console you don't have? Just curious because your console library is impressive.

Oh boy, I had fun reading everyone's responses to this question! Chocobochica, finding video game consoles at garage sales IS THE BEST THING EVER! I also love looking for games, controllers, etc. to buy for like a $1 from people who have no clue how much the stuff can be worth. And Krinital, CHRONO TRIGGER is sooooooo great. Honestly I started with Cross, which I also love, but ugh both games are definitely in my top whatever best games list. Let's see, the first system I ever played (my Dad owned them ) was the Nintendo! My brother and I would play Blades of Steel, Duck Hunt, and Super Mario 3 all of the time. Also my Dad had Tecomo Bowl which I'd watch him play. I believe growing up with a brother helped me get into gaming. From there we had a Super Nintendo and we'd play just about everything, our favorites being Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and I'd have my parents rent me Zelda A Link to the Past! Whew. Out of every system so far, I'd have to say my favorite is also the PS2! Isn't it crazy fun to see how many of us love that damn machine?! I have a feeling that machines such as the PS4, Xbox One, etc. will not stick around and be as loved as the PS2. There are so many amazing games for it and yes the backwards compatibility really knocked it up a notch for me. I had the original big hulky PS2 that sounded like a plane about to take off. I now own the slim version. Another system I would like to point out that was awesome and way ahead of it's time was the Sega Dreamcast! My brother bugged and bugged our parents for one until he finally got it. The graphics on that thing blew us away! I remember watching him play Shenmu 2 and I was obsessed with Skies of Arcadia. Aahhhhhhhh such great memories! He still has the system today, speaking of which I need to see if he wants to break it out and play it soon! The Dreamcast was so much ahead of its time. It was the first system to use discs if im not mistaken and graphically is was superior to everything else on the market. I'm a huge sonic fan and nothing beats sonic adventure 1 and sonic adventure 2. Also the system had alot of underrated games on it like Phantasy Star Online and Power Stone which was one of the most unique fighting games i have ever played Yes PSO! That was such a fun game...good time, I had mine on Gamecube. I'm the outcast here, I did not have a great love story with the PS2. Don't get me wrong, it was impressive for irs time and I have a lot of fond memories, but it seemed like we went through 3 of them. They kept breaking, the memory cards kept getting corrupted, and the disk tray was flimsy. It was an infuriating system and the original was loud. The last one seems to be lasting us though, it's the newer sleek version.

There are a few I'm missing. I have a younger cousin who has one of the legendary Atari Jaguar systems. I remember playing it with her when we were younger, and I know she had it in storage for a while. I planned on buying it off her, but we fell out of touch and whatnot so I might have to get one elsewhere. I also have been on a life long quest to find a Steel Battalion set- I know one was made for XBox some years back, which was cool....but I'd love to get an original.

Ps2 seems like the popular choice for good reason. It will be interesting to see if these next gen systems are capable of the lasting impression like the Ps2. I wonder if in 15 or so years will people be saying the Ps4 or whatnot was their favorite system? I don't think so but time will only tell. And I believe the lack of true exclusives will hinder the lasting impact of next Gen compared to it's classic counterparts of the past

I think that this comes from the overall emphasis on graphical elitism over writing. I don't know if anyone has played new games that focus on telling a story instead of trying to blow everyone's minds with amazing graphic, but those are the games that last. The limitations of the PS2's graphical capabilities may have encouraged developers to create games that were driven by narrative over investing immense resources into making the game look better on console x over console y.

And I believe the lack of true exclusives will hinder the lasting impact of next Gen compared to it's classic counterparts of the past The problem is the PS2 was the final resting place for like 70% of the Japanese developers. Starting with all the consoles that came after it all the Japanese developers that existed during the 90s slowly died off as games started getting more expensive and demanding to produce in HD. 360, PS3 and now PS4 and Xbox One don't have as many developers from Japan making games anymore so there are just less games in general and less unique and interesting ones coming from Japan. The west development game companies are doing fine because they have huge budgets like EA, Ubisoft, Activision. Whereas Japan only really has Square Enix, Capcom, Nintendo, Namco Bandai and Sega (Konami is leaving games now) most of the development studios like Capcom need people to fund them to even begin to have money to pay for HD game development costs for new games on the PS4 like Street Fighter 5. The PS2 was like a farewell to an era for the SNES and PS1 style of games like JRPGs. The PS2 RPG library is enormous compared to any other console and quality of titles was extremely high.

I'd like to build a cabinet set with different slots for all the machines, and keep them all set up so I can play whichever at any given time. Turn my basement into a nerd lair for gaming. Adult dreams.

I agree with you 100%! And I think this aspect is one of many reasons the PS2 is still my favorite console. Most of the RPGs I played back then on it had epic awesome storylines compared to a lot of games made today. I don't want to start the great debate of 2015 but that's how I feel when it comes to FFXIII. The game is gorgeous, no doubt, but honestly it did nothing for me. The storyline didn't capture my interests and it just felt as if it were lacking something.

I started out with an NES! FFI was actually my first final fantasy, and probably one of my first five games I ever played in my life. My favorite console, overall, I'd say was the ps2, but primarily because I could play all my ps1 games on it. Plus the addition of some of the better releases on that console. Eh, no. The ps1 was and is my favorite in terms of games.

Still have not played 1-3 and I highly doubt I ever will
