After seeing the top 5 albums thread we had in here i figured i'd start up a thread so we can discuss the various bands we like as well as potentially share some new bands with people. So pop on in share some favorites or even tell what you are currently listening too.
To start this off i love a genre of metal called Power Metal. Within that genre is a band called Kamelot. The themes they have plus how melodic they are makes me love them.

I never got into the fantasy imagery and opera-ness associated with power metal, but I can respect the musicainship. Those Dragonforce guys are pretty sick at guitar. Although, I admit, that Fire and Flames song grew old on me pretty quick. Does Lacuna Coil count as power metal? I listened to a song from Kamelot and the guitar style is pretty similar.
Of course, no one ever agrees on metal sub-genres...

Know of any other metal groups that have awesome concept albums? |

Along with metal, I'm a big grunge rock guy. I love Alice In Chains and Soundgarden especially. Chris Cornell has done a few things like Temple of the Dog and such. Mad Season is pretty good as well, but it's essentially Alice in Chains with new people. Audioslave is good, but not my favorite.
I've been listening to metal especially lately. All over the board from Metallica, Megadeth, Slipknot, Slayer, Anthrax, Judas Priest, Korn, FFDP, etc, etc, etc.

I actually listen to a lot of different genres. I mainly lean toward metal, but here are some of my faves by genre. Or at least as best as I can put them into a genre.
Metal - Slipknot (favorite band period), Korn, Metallica
Newish metal - crown the empire
Rock/hard rock - Stone Sour, Aerosmith, Beautiful Creatures
Rap - Tech N9ne ( if you like metal, or darker music; check him out)
Black metal - Crade of Filth
"Pop" - 30 seconds to Mars
And lastly: Voltaire. (I can't really put him into a genre. He does a lot of satire and sings about nerdy things like Star Wars and Star Trek. But also does love songs and music that tell stories. But gun to my head, goth rock)

Wow a lot of metel listeners in here. I'm not much for the genre. I listen to trance, techno, alteranative, Indi, alot of dubstep and rave, new age, house, blues, jaz and landscape music.

Lets argue Some of the band titles in the dirtier subgenres legitimately scare me... I think I'll pass listening to somebody named Carcass, Dismember or wtf Dying Fetus. No thank you. Now where'd I put my Teenage Dream CD? |

I listen to all kinds of music and I really enjoy many genres too. About the same for me, very little i hate. If i had to give a preference would be classic rock but there are certain bands and songs in every area of music i like really just depends on my mood. |

I wish I could say I listen to many types of music, but I will be honest and say I don't stray from metal or rock. I can tolerate all music, but I will not willingly listen to any other genres on my own. Well...I do like some others like Massive Attack and Celldweller.

Wow. That chart is amazing, and about 30 bands I listen to are on there. Except for Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace- I kind of feel like they belong in there somewhere- in the rock categories, not metal.
Also, if anyone has heard of a band called Eluveitie, they're kind of like.... Irish Folk Metal?
It's all getting kind of weird.
