And just to play devil's advocate on everyone saying that Nomura shouldn't be the director based on the poor job he did with Advent Children. Even if you do believe that he didn't handle Advent Children correctly you have to remember that directing a movie and directing a video game are completely different. I personally think that he did a great job given the sub-par script, the action scenes were amazing and it just had a "cool" feel to it. Regardless, Nomura has proven that he is a great game director with Kingdom Hearts, a game that I personally prefer to any final fantasy game, so I guess that I am sayig that it is a little unfair to judge Nomura's ability to do this remake based on Advent Children.

When making Kingdom Hearts games a lot of FF fans asked why weren't other FF characters brought into the FF series like FFVI or FFIV characters and Nomura responded that since he wasn't involved with creating those characters he isn't comfortable with adding to the game since he doesn't know their personalities and how they would react to situations well enough so he stuck to characters he was involved with. To this day only characters he worked with showed up in KH. If anyone will do justice to the characters of FF7 its going to be him I think and he is working with Kitase and Nojima who will probably speak up if something is wrong.

I realize I'm coming late to the whole drama with this guest account but there's really only one thing to say; hiding behind a guest account to start shit on a forum is laughable in and of itself, is it not?
But anyway, I can see why people consider Advent Children a "bad" movie but in all honesty, it really was just Square doing a bit of fan service. It's for that reason that I don't really critique it as an actual movie and besides that, Nomura is a game designer, so it was out of his realm of expertise to begin with, I would think.
I do have to disagree with Joe on this though, I think you can still love the original and want a remake as well. For me personally, I played FFVII when I was around kindergarten age so I obviously had no clue what was happening and it wasn't until I played it when I got older that I understood it and realized it was a bit dated at the time. I love FFVII, it got me into the series for god's sake. I dunno, I guess I'm just deciding to look at this remake as an addition to the family of FFVII entertainment, not as a replacement or anything (not to say that any of you are).

Fan service....huh. Don't think I ever thought of it like that, but I agree. I watched Advent Children the other day for the first time in years, after listening to the podcast episode about it, and it was interesting to go back and look at it for what it was. My doe-eyed youth loved it when it first came out.....and actually, I still do. Dilly dally shilly shally.

I don't care what anyone say's about the group throwing Cloud up at Bahamut Sin but I honestly LOVE Vincent's simple, "Fly!" *heart eye emoji*

Honestly a lot of hope rides on this game for me. If they do it right it could open up remakes of a few classics including a remake of 6. If they screw this up though, I think it will burn a lot of bridges for their dedicate customers.
